actually..India is not using even 8% of the 20% share of water alloted to India Firstly there are many challenges to build dams or build canals..due to terrain..you can not dug canals in those valleys and hilly region..water has to be transported through tunnels/pipe liens cutting the mountains/rock The water thus stopped can not be used for irrigation there (as there are less plains in those area..and it should be shifted to other regions like Jammu,HP,haryana or Punjab All this adds to cost of the projects ..so India Govt has not spent much on using the 20% share of water from the treaty and water was freely flowing to Pakistan through out the year Just recently India has built a dam (Kishen Ganga) on ravi river for producing only electricty (run of water..and not even using the water for irrigation)..due to which the flow got throttled..but not stopped For this small stroke..the farmers in Pakistan, down the river got a huge blow as they have not received expected water on time and teh Govt got panicked and approached world bank Just imagine if India really uses 20% share..there will be huge crisis | ||
