mahesh_fan, look at the list rao gave in this thread. They are all > 30% growth companies. Dont look for 20-25%. Look for 30-40%. If things go bad they will still make 20-25% and your purpose will be solved. Remember our focus should be to protect our capital. So think what happens in adverse conditions. I think this thread can be confusing to some folks and might create an urge to be 100% invested in stocks even if you are not cut for it. There is no right or wrong way to approach it. Most important point is your comfort level. If you are comfortable without investing in stocks because you cannot handle the volatility then so be it. Similarly, if you are comfortable being 100% invested then go for it. I personally don't want to be 100% invested in stocks as I have other business avenues and I prefer having a nice home for me in US and parents in India. Bottom line, Do what you are comfortable with...don't try to be somebody else because it is a recipe for disaster. My 2 paisa. But, I had some other obligations(peer pressure) to buy stuff (gold/land/etc). I spent good amt(close to 50L) of money on this .(I knew the returns wud be nothing but still I had to spent). I couldnt go for all in. I am slowly building my position for next 5-10 years. I am kinda adding more money couple of times a year (4-5) times a year, like adding 10% of portfolio. shareholding pattern does not matter much. If promoter holding > 50% that should be enough. it can only be used as one of the filters. it should not matter if promoter holding is 60% or 90%. quality of promoter is very important though. | ||

if you are just starting have reasonable expectations. Dont look for getting 50% kinda returns. Focus should be on capital preservation. always try to limit downside and upside will take care of itself. Here is simple gyan picked up from article on livemint. consider the below 2 scenarios of 4 year returns. A) 40%, 50%, -60% and 65% B) 20%, 15%, 17% and 20% A appears attractive but if you have invested 100 rs A) Rs.140, Rs.210, Rs.84 and Rs.138.60 B) Rs.120, Rs.138, Rs.161.46 and Rs.193.75 so better to focus more on limiting downside. | ||
