I met martina at the practice courts in flushing meadows. she had a hit with one of my favorite WTA players - kuznetsova. i told her it is a pleasure to see her play and she said she is fortunate to receive such kind words incidentally, i saw kuznetsova win the USopen that year with martina watching her court-side

In the beautiful meadows of middle-earth, where wine flows like water and it is spring forever, there lived a most beautiful damsel called Constant. Many young men came knocking on her door to ask for her hand and she politely turned them down. She was in love with a handsome hunk called E power x.
As fate would have it, an evil guy took some liking to constant and he came to her door, one fine morning.
Knock! Knock!
"Who is it?" asks the damsel

I am in India presently, but thoroughly enjoyed Miami. finals were anti-climax with very less drama, but andy closed the deal and looks to be playing the best tennis of his career. His coach, stefanki, suggested andy might have an agassi like run. I think that is far-fetched, but a-rod has made me believe that he can add to his slam count. He played SMART tennis in miami and his win over nadal was classic!
Regarding the women's mommy kimmi just ran away with the match after the match started out promising. Interestingly she lost to a total nobody in a 2nd round match in some vague-ax tournament in Spain. women's tennis looks quite promising right now, as you say, gotta check when safina and sharapova are coming back from injury.... Right now justine and kimmi are my top picks for women's RG.

Frodo: Were you there on the courtside live for mens finale @miami? What a victory by arod.. Womens: The way venus started the game, its unfortunate that she wsa totally taken for a ride by the mom.. Looks like great days are ahead esp in the womens.. the belgians,the sistaaz, the young russians.. cant wait to see them at roland garros..

For those who think she should have married and had kids etc etc, you need to open up your eyes and minds a little more. You cannot change your sexual orientation and die many deaths every day instead of being who you are and dying once.

A little saddened by this. She is a great commentator (except when whining about racquet technology) and a brilliant athlete. She was done with her singles career by the time I started watching and initially I was more of a power game guy cheering for the likes of becker and seles, but over the years I have seen her play doubles and watched quite a few tapes of her and evert's classic rivalry and she played an amazingly beautiful game. For sheer artistry on a tennis court, she would be on top 5 of all time along with Federer, Henin, J-mac and edberg.
Paes and Navratilova on a tennis court was just awesome. They played with a flair that I haven't seen in many mixed doubles' pairs. Heck, my favorite mixed doubles team would be martina and anybody else. She definitely saved her best for the Big W. She won a singles match at wimbledon aged 47. That's just too good.
What makes this more sad is that she was very health-conscious.... I was shocked she hadn't got tested in 4yrs, but I guess we are all humans.
God bless Ms Navratilova. contemporary tennis viewing is more fun with her commentary. Tennis is more special because of the way she played. She trained hard and created magic on the court!
May the force be with her.
