It was not the charisma of Chiranjeevi but the personal image of M Narasimha Yadav that helped the Praja Rajyam party (PRP) escape an ugly defeat in the GHMC elections. The party won from just one division. Yadav, its solitary winner, romped home from Old Bowenpally. Though Chiranjeevi campagined in all the 64 divisions where the PRP fielded its candidates, the party candidates lost deposits in several places. But, Yadav, who has been active in his division for the last 15 years, managed to win. He was in the BJP for several years and undertook several developmental works in the division and was popular with people. He was always accessible to people, a close aide of Yadav told Express. When Chiranjeevi launched the PRP Yadav switched his loyalties from the BJP to the new party. It was not a smooth walk, however, for Yadav. As the PRP dilly-dallied on contesting the elections its image too a severe beating. According to sources, Yadav was so unsure of winning the election that he did not even bother to go to the counting centre. But in the evening when the news channles flashed the trends that the PRP was leading in the divison, Yadav, along with his followers, rushed to the counting centre.
