I am one of them I beleive that our consciousness will inexorably lead us to that path of that enlightenment if we heed it Some say a guru speeds up the process ..but I think I'd rather let it happen at its own pace At this point I treat it like a treasure hunt ...My consciousness(to me my divine Mother Gauri) gives me clues and I skip along merrily unravelling those to the next clue..As for a lil kid on a easter egg hunt, the search is as much fun as finding the treasure I think I do touch a lot of people's feet - it is a mark of respect and acceptance that they have something to teach me...the other day we were discussing Amma Amritanandamayi - she does not let anyone touch her feet either but hugs everyone who visits her
But I agree with what you are saying in principle - a guru who cannot subjugate his own ego teaching disciples to do it does not make sense -but looking at it from a pure worldly angle - if a guru bows to another guru - his disciples defect to the other camp seeing him as superior - so it becomes a matter of survival I guess .. Provided you believe in enlightenment. Well there are others who say that there is no need of any guru. Be a light unto ourself. A real guru is the one who will free himself from the disciples. When Medhananda was in Bay Area while others fell at his feet but I did not. A real guy should reciprocate by touching their feet. Jiddu Krishnamurti will not allow anyone to touch his feet and will reciprocate in case someone touches his feet. And also he is against individual worship and cult following. | ||

There are some like Swami Chinmayananda who don't. They clearly say there is no shortcut ,and they do not show miracles - all they promise is that they will give you the tools - but you have to do the work...And I don't remember anyone in the family paying Swami Chinmayananda or Swami Dayananda much other than an occasional pair of kashaya vastralu and bhiksha(food at home)...Ofcourse he had the ultrarich followers ,who made sizeable donations to the Chinmaya mission and that's a huge organisation as well ... Yes these spiritual businessmen promise enlightenment in a short time. They say "you are almost there...just little more effort". Have they produced any enlightened person? And what will this newly enlightened person do? Start another holy business? and not work for the parent organization? In this Holy Business they promise enlightenment but never fulfill it. A street vendor selling dosa will immediately deliver what he promised or a prostitute fulfills your desire for the money taken. | ||

Good memory! I mentioned about him about 2.5 to 3 years ago. He is also following a similar model of Kalki Bhagavan. He also has a 21 day program in Bangalore for which he charges $5000. One foolish guy from Silicon Valley attended it. Nithyananda is now in USA on a tour. For one day Kalpataru program he charges $150 in which you have to stand in a queue and touch his feet and beg for wishes. And he also has a weekend Yogaspurana program for which he charges $750. He is still a boy and he will make big money soon! I spoke to some of his foolish followers who work in some good technology companies like Cisco in Bay Area. When I raised some questions they were shivering because the foundations of their beliefs are shaken. They whispered in my ear not to raise questions as they will loose the "potential" customers. One of the "senior" disciples of Nithyananda called Meghananda came to BayArea and I embarrassed him with questions. He worked in StarBucks in Seattle before he took to Sanyas. | ||

I have no idea why they patented this when most of these techniques are known to indians since ages. I was once inclined to attend one of these workshops since everyone says they benefited. I called and they said $240 or so charge and a bhajan to sri sri ravishankar before the actual workshop begins. I may be wrong I don't do pooja to living beings, that I don't know if I like to pray or not. So, I cancelled out. | ||
