Yes andi..I listened to his video and I liked it too...very very terse but to the point. But my information sources are very different in nature. I read a lot of stuff from Stiglitz and Edmund Phelps. I did a seminar in Globalization offered by Stiglitz and Bhagawati at columbia for 2 semesters. Most of my statements are gleaned information from those sources. | ||

It is dollar denominated , anybody on the surface of the earth who wants buy these has to buy Dollar first and then buy these Bills and US has every right to print its own currency, where does the Default risk come into picture? I dont want to go into the whole auction process of T-bills, but anybody who wants to buy a T-Bill has to come to US markets. | ||

Hmm...I am talking way beyond my comprehension here so excuse me if I get something completely unrequited out of my mouth. I think the US sought debt from the economies around the Globe with the debt secured by their notes which were deemed almost riskless. But riskless under the assumption that the debt capital was indeed valuable. But with the markets correcting themselves to this end and saying that "listen what u deemed as capital worth value is actually worthless..US currency as of now is not being devaluated becuase the economies around the globe traded in Dollars effectively and their reserves will shrink if they see a devaluated dollar today...but when the market re evaluates the equity capitals and debt capitals of the participant agents....it will for sure say...." hey listen! I dont think US treasury securities are no longer a safe collateral for me"...then the whole scenario changes...as of now they are not doing it to avoid collateral damage...but how long is the question?? | ||

I wouldn't dare say that on the back of my limited knowledge...but in as much as I know....the capitalism that US preaches to the world is corrupt...bad and mean...Efficient Unregulated markets is a proper myth...Only symmetric markets can dream of being efficient....see the capialism that is practised here....they rap the emerging economies on the knuckles when they say they can't open their markets for those leveraged western advantage at the risk of killing local businesses....and what do they do when pushed in their own backyard....bail out...Freddie and Fannie....for once I never doubted that those were culpable and under fair rules of the game were no better than Bear..hence had a take the blow....what happened to Laissez Faire capitalism then??? | ||

But still, how can the GOVT default on Dollar denominated debt, when they have power to print the money. Exchange rate risk does not even come into picture. US never borrowed money in other markets. Inflation is a factor but if you keep TIPS aside, I dont see a point here. | ||
