I was curious about this but never cared to research why... Here's my findings from different sources online: - Basically, the reason new DVDs, CDs and Video Games are released on Tuesdays is that rental figures and music charts are released on Mondays. It only makes sense that the studios/game companies/record companies would make their releases the next day, allowing a full week to maximize the numbers that are posted the following monday. - If a Tuesday release is selling well, there still is time to order more before the weekend. Shipments of music usually begin to arrive in stores on Thursday. That gives the stores time to coordinate special midnight sales on Monday evening, as opposed to Sunday, which is usually a shorter work day. This practice appears to have been followed for 20 years.  - It was a deal made long ago between the studios and the delivery companies (UPS, Fed Ex, etc). Mondays have holiday interruptions so they were ruled out. Tuesday is electronic media day. Wednesday is new comic books and periodicals day (with Friday added to handle most magazines these days). I am not sure what they do on Thursday, probably live pets or something similar. |
