I know a bit abt MBS .. but what does liquidity in Future's trades has to do with credit crunch ..or leveraged positions .. anyways .. where do you look at Lehmans balance sheets ??
It does sound funny, when someone comes up with future expected growth rates till 4th decimal .. There is difference in "Growth rate of xyz industry would be around 5% for next quarter" "Growth rate of xyz industry would be around 5.4375% for next quarter" | ||

Well I meant...that mortagages are very exotic in their own right...like assume a long term insuarance contract...they best longs that we have in the OTC market are may be with a maturity of 8 yrs or so...we are talking about periods mags more than that...so devising a hedge program for those assets is nearly impossible...and its in these spreads that ppl make naked profits... liquidity as of today implies that their futures trades are very active and aren't dealign with long tem investments....bears death was that owing to liquidity more than anything else in as much as I know | ||

I don't follow Indian stocks much.But few things to consider Downside. 1.US and European firms are cutting down on their IT operations to reduce operating expenses. Upside 1.Strengthening dollar will help them. 2.As part of cost cutting measures,companies are outsouring more. Look for indications from Infy and Wipro. | ||

You are not trying to understand how they work.Different divisions untayi.Some divisions need to work independent of others.Analysts in a firm might be upgrading a stock.And traders in that very firm can be shorting them. You might know by this time that most of these "exotic assets" are off the Balance sheet.. Ave kada kompalu munchinayi most of the companies ni.. I think they called it some 3rd account or some name that I cannot recollect.. I think now SEC wants that also to be included in the Balance Sheet..but it is not law yet | ||

Guys, my close friends works for Lehman in equity trading, they already laid off 1500 lot of desi guys(folks from IIT Khargpur and Madras Batch), he is also from IIT most of the equity, deravatives, spreads and trading divisions are run by desis only. He said there is no imminent threat and have enough assests but you never know whats the real scoop | ||
