Days after two MPs belonging to the Telugu Desam and the Congress almost came to blows at Dehradun airport over the shifting of pilgrims to Andhra Pradesh, TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu has apologised to the nation for the “ugly incident.” Naidu reached Hyderabad on Thursday night after his three-day visit to New Delhi and Uttarakhand. Speaking to the media on Friday, the former chief minister said “I am tendering an unconditional apology to the nation owing to the unfortunate incident.” He, however, said that TD wasn’t at fault as far as far as that incident was concerned. Naidu alleged that the Centre and the state government failed to manage the situation after thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the country got stranded in the Himalayan state following the unprecedented devastation due to rains. He alleged that unlike other governments who sent their representatives for shifting back the pilgrims stranded in Uttarakhand back to their respective, the AP government made no such effort. “That explains the officials’ partisan attitude towards the pilgrims belonging to Andhra Pradesh,” he said claiming that the situation had changed after his visit to Uttarakhand. “Before that the officials in that state (Uttarakhand) were giving importance to Hindi-speaking pilgrims and weren’t caring for the Telugu speaking pilgrims,” Naidu said. According to him, he had gone to the disaster-stricken state “to help our people (pilgrims) in times of crisis; it was out of a sense of responsibility that I went there and not to win accolades.” Naidu said he returned with a sense of satisfaction after a job well done. Taking pot-shots at the state government he said he didn’t take any help from the government, but extended whatever help he could through the NTR Trust. “The AP government didn’t even arrange flights to shift the pilgrims stranded in Uttarakhand... It was the TD that arranged the flights,” Naidu said. He alleged that the state government hadn’t even arranged for accommodation and food for the pilgrims. http://www.deccanchronicle.com/130629/news-current-affairs/a rticle/naidu-apologises-mps-outburst |
