transfer from one airlines to another is always painful and sometimes impossible. I do not know whether you can transfer Lufthansa miles into US Airways or not. You better hurry if there is a way, because US Airways is moving out of Star Alliance and joining One-World when the merger with AA goes through. Yes. and if you can meet the spend threshold, apply for US Airways card (from barclays) and American AAdvantage card (from Citi). search for better offers online (in travel forums etc). sometimes the offer on the airlines' site is not the best offer available. another trick with airline cards...search for a ticket booking and one or two steps before actually booking a ticket you might notice an ad for the CC somewhere on that page which may be a better offer (you DON'T have to go through with the purchase of the ticket). I used this trick for United. Not sure if this helps or not, but I suggest creating a Frequent Flyer account (if you dont have it already) prior to applying for the CC. Chase will say pending if you applied for a card with them in the past 6 months. This is automatic hold and most probably will result in a rejection. IF you apply for more than 1 card from the same bank in short span, you may get rejected. Chase United Explorer - 55K miles Chase Freedom - 25k Miles (this card alone is useless, but you can transfer these points to Chase Sapphire Preferred account, which can then be transferred to United) Remember only Chase Sapphire "Preferred" lets you transfer points to airlines and hotels. British Airways option kooda undi. Remember you can book flights in the "ALLIANCE" too, but less number of seats will be available. There are third party companies who do the award booking for you for $100 or $200. Other option is to use a few tools to keep track of award seats and book them as soon as they open up. First time: Qatar was a partner of United (outside of the alliance)....so United miles tho Qatar biz class. Second time: United miles tho Lufthansa biz class. Recent Chicago trip: Just 7K Amex points transferred to BA (with 50% it became 9400 BA miles), used for roundtrip to Chicago on American Airlines. Delta miles tho SkyAlliance lo unna airlines lo vellochu (like Air France, Alitalia, KLM etc). All "GOOD" credit cards have an annual fee. You just have to find a CC, which will give you more in return, than what you pay for the fee. Some of them have the first year waived. For example, Chase Sapphire Preferred, or any airlines CCs usually have the first year fee waived. Amex platinum ki $450 annual fee. But you can easily get $500 back + points from it during the first year. In my case, I have already got $300 back + 100K points(which is $1000 cash, but a lot more valuable as miles). Next Jan lo inko $200 back vasthundi. So, I would have made $1500 easily (minimum) by the end of the first year, on a $450 annual fee. If the accumulated points are used for "premium" international travel, the points are worth a lot more than 1 cent. For example: I used 120K points for a round trip ticket for my wife in Biz class (to India and Back). 120K points ni cash chesukuntey $1200 vasthundi. Kaani $1200 ki economy class roundtrip kooda raadu. It all boils down to, how intend to use your points and how fast do you think you can rake up those points.
