Vajpayee-Advani era in BJP is over, Nitish Kumar says TNN | Jun 17, 2013, 12.00 PM IST NEW DELHI: A day after parting ways with the BJP, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday accused the former alliance partner of betrayal. Speaking to reporters in Patna, Nitish Kumar blamed the BJP for the end of 17-year-old alliance. "Our parting ways from the NDA is BJP's failure. You created a situation in which the old allies walked away. An alliance does not run under compulsion," Nitish said. The Atal-Advani era in the BJP is over and we can't reconcile with the new leadership, the Bihar chief minister said defending JD(U)'s decision to end the relationship over Modi's elevation. Taking a dig at the BJP, Nitish called it a party which betrayed its seniors. In an obvious reference to LK Advani, Nitish questioned the BJP rationale of sidelining its senior leaders. "Those who have betrayed and cornered their own elders have no right to point fingers at others. Those who cannot respect their elders and sideline them within the party have no right to blame us," Nitish Kumar told reporters. Nitish dismissed BJP's charge that the decision to split was taken in haste. Decision to split with NDA not taken in haste. It was decided after due consideration and taken at the right time, Nitish said. The JD (U) leader said, "further waiting over it would have been cheating onself" as the central leaders of BJP were not in a position to give any assurance and were only asking us to put on hold a decision on the split. Elaborating on the reasons for parting ways, the Bihar chief minister said, "Trouble began when 'external forces' started affecting the state unit of the BJP." |
