Superman is a very tough hero to make audiences like him. Stakes have turned. There was a time when ignorant masses liked the idea of an unearthly human-looking super-hero with super-powers and super-strength, and idolized him. Marvel did a great job bringing in a whole variety of super-heroes that are born from basic human emotions and needs. Spiderman, Iron-man, Hulk, Captain America, every one of them is based off of a particular persona that we see around ourselves. Avengers plot-line is every person's every day struggle, when you bring in a group of talented and skilled people for a particular task, they'd most certainly drag their personal baggage to the professional work-place. Batman possibly is the only hero from DC Comics who has a very delicate resemblance to a typical, genuine person. Have to wait and watch how Nolan and Snyder managed with it this time. If they pull it off even decently well, the battle between DC Comics and Marvel will be even more interesting.
