No. Any first draft pick will only become a restricted free agent at the end of his contract. The team who has the player will have the right to match any contract and keep him. Of course, then can give him a bigger and longer deal, but they can also simply match any other team's offer and keep him. That is why you never see a rookie player defect...not even Lebron James or Kevin Love. They can only leave after their second contract. There is an exception to this if the restricted free agent just signs the qualifying offer for 1 year but no player will take that risk. | ||

Not at all correct. Westbrook is already signed until 2017..so OKC can trade him wherever they want. Same with Harden...he is a restricted free agent. So, OKC can match any offer in July 2013 and trade him after 6 months to any team. You are talking about would be free agents. Any player coming out of rookie contract will not have that choice. | ||

Harden is one of the top 10 NBA players...not just another Bench player. Perkins is one of the worst centers in the league. He played 25 Mins per game in Regular season and 19 Mins per game in playoffs. He has a player efficiency rating of 8.2. They will try to trade him but there will be no takers. You can trade Harden for pretty much any center not named Dwight Howard ani naa idhi adhi. | ||

Harden is getting paid 5 Million this year. Max contract starts next year. For luxury only season ending salary counts, they could have easily traded him or Westbrook in February 2014. Another option was to amnesty Perkins. Initially, I thought it was a reasonable move kaani the more I think of it...the more it baffles me. They were The dominant Western Conference team...now they are only a good playoff team. | ||
