Typical IT policy in major fin org's. But i have seen cases where there is no such system. Non-fin companies think of IT as expense and fin org's think of it as investment. | ||

I see the problem in your company. Maa company lo tools, engg. departments untayi. Everyone must use same version of browser, source face, IBM RSA version, Clear Quest or any other tools. Our laptops run a bot agent that checks for any unauthorized s/w running on machines and reports back. Even if it is legal s/w, we must have authorization to run. Engg. group certifies and builds the newer environments like moving to WebSphere 7, Oracle 11g etc. All the apps. must migrate to new platform within certain window. I don't see any unsupported tools, environment used anywhere. | ||

In all the companies that I work, a specific group should approve software purchases. The desktop is locked, you cannot install anything. If you want to buy, have the group purchase it and get it installed. Same thing applies to Saas based enterprise services. | ||
