CBN laid a strong le sustainabfoundation and did it when the state budget was peanuts. YSR just build some walls and partitions and started claiming that he did everything. By his second term he undid lot of the work that CBN did by distributing free sops and legalizing rampant corruption without boundaries just to accomodate his sons illgotten wealth. Started to blackmail people, killing and extortion became commonplace. CBN did to Andhra Pradesh which no one else could do..ie. take it to the next level with enough escape velocity to defy the not needed gravity of corruption and other hurdles. Unlike the donga bageeratha and sons KamPiny, he toiled 18 hours a day and made a biiig difference in the whole of India...It was the time when India was looking towards the next move of Andhra Pradesh. What AndhraPradesh did today, India did tomorrow...Unfortunately its not the case anymore once YSR and Congress party took the reins... | ||

Southern states scorch software exports R Subramanyam, TNN Jun 12, 2004, 12.47am IST BANGALORE: The South continues to account for more than half of the country's total software services exports. The three southern states - Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh — together account for 54.6% of India's total software exports of Rs 56,250 cr. According to Nasscom, the trade body for software and service exports, total software exports in 2003-04 fiscal was $12.5 billion (Rs 56,250 cr), a 30.5% jump over $9.6 billion (Rs 43,200 cr) made in the previous year. Karnataka, as in the past, led the southern states in software export earnings. The state earned Rs 18,100 crore, a 46% jump over Rs 12,350 cr earned in the previous fiscal. Including hardware, Karnataka's total IT exports were Rs 19,800 cr. Hardware exports from the state last fiscal was Rs 1,700 cr (Rs 800 cr previously). Tamil Nadu's software export was 42.11% lower than Karnataka's. In fiscal 2003-04, software exports were Rs 7,621.50 cr, a 21% jump over previous year earnings of Rs 6,315.51 cr. Overall IT exports from Tamil Nadu were Rs 7,740.38 cr. The hardware sector's contribution was Rs 118.88 cr. When compared to Tamil Nadu, "software exports of neighbour Andhra Pradesh showed a 37% growth. Software export last fiscal earned the state Rs 5,025 cr, up from Rs 3,688 cr the year before.For Andhra, a major part of the total exports came from the fast growing ITeS/BPO sector. Export earnings from the ITeS sector were Rs 2,347 cr, which accounted for 47% of the total IT exports. On an annualised basis, ITeS sector exports showed a huge growth of 66%." | ||

In this section we present an analysis of how the Andhra Pradesh state government led by Chandrababu Naidu has been able to make a giant stride to shape an IT cluster in and around Hyderabad. The entrepreneurial vision and the clarity of the strategy are evident from the number of initiatives the Chief Minister has taken to position Hyderabad as the knowledge hub of India. This includes not only upgrading economic and social infrastructure, but also providing pioneering leadership in e-governance in India. This not only pushed up IT-orientation in the society, but also opened up business opportunities for several companies including Microsoft. The state government partnered with private companies to promote IT literacy too. This includes campaigning and facilitating the setting up of a number of pioneering international quality institutions in the area of IT, biotechnology, life sciences, business management and insurance, all in emerging growth areas. All of them are designed to be of international repute. Creation of a finance district to house a number of institutions and agencies is expected to lead to a cluster of financial organizations in Hyderabad. The entrepreneurial leadership is as much reflected in these initiatives as much in brand building around them. A number of foreign delegations and dignitaries were invited to the HITEC city in the last few years and several road shows and seminars were held in various countries including the US, the UK, and Germany to give visibility and build image for the city. Naidu, as the Chief Minister (1996-2004) took personal interest in negotiating with a number of multinational firms. All these formed the building blocks of a grand strategy to catch up with the development process, which is knowledge driven in the emerging context.
