There is more to that survey. Basically ISRG historical growth has been coming from dVP (prostrate) surgeries, which is slowing down due to new PSA screening guidelines, there other growth area is Hysterectomy and general surgery. ISRG's biggest selling point is that minimally invasive surgery will result in less hospital stay, so less chance of infection and costs less. The problem is Medicaid reimbursements for Laprascopy and Robotic surgeries are same, the hospitals are eating the additional cost. The new study which came out month ago basically said that there is no advantage of using Robotics over laprascopy. The concern now is why would hospitals keep using it when they have to eat the cost. On top of it there are some pending lawsuits regarding the surgeries going bad, the stories are pretty bad. FDA basically sent a survey to few doctors to ask about the efficacy of ISRG machines and surgeries. The growth has to come form general surgery , which is doing great and should help them to achieve their full year procedural growth guidance of 21-23%.
