Travel advisories by China, UK unjustified, tourism minister Chiranjeevi says ------------------------------------------------------------ ----- NEW DELHI: India will protest against travel advisories issued by the UK and China in the last two months dissuading their citizens from travelling to India. Tourism minister K Chiranjeevi on Wednesday said that the rape incidents were "unfortunate" but discouraging foreign tourists from coming to India was "unjustified." Speaking on the issue, Chiranjeevi said, "It is an unfortunate but a remote incident. The repercussion of one unfortunate incident should not affect our economy and tourism...The advisories by the UK and China are unjustified." He added that the tourism ministry will be writing to the governments of the UK and China to withdraw the advisories. "The incidents are shameful and we condemn them. But our government has moved proactively on the issue and taken steps, speeding up the anti-rape ordinance. My ministry plans to take up this issue with both countries," he said. Both the United States and United Kingdom had reviewed their travel advisories asking their citizens to avoid central Delhi and monitor news to avoid demonstrations. The advisories were revised on December 29 following the death of the Delhi gang-rape victim in Singapore. The death of the victim was followed by protests across the country making Lutyen's Delhi a no-go zone with young boys and girls demonstrating at India Gate and demanding to meet the President. The incident involving a Chinese national, who was raped in south Delhi, occurred earlier this month prompting the Chinese Embassy to advise its nationals to avoid going out alone. In a statement, the Chinese Embassy expressed "shock and anger" at the incident, and added, in an advisory, that Chinese citizens, women in particular, needed to "strongly remain alert about their personal security, avoid going out of house alone, shun insecure places, and report to the police and the Chinese Embassy once they meet any unusual situation". www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=569195943093524&l=4b82d99078 Chiranjeevi is my God! Japan is looking at investing in India’s hospitality sector. â€In the hotel sector 100% FDI is allowed. The Japanese have shown interest in investing in India’s hospitality sector. India needs quality budget accommodation and tourism ministry is encouraging foreign investors who are interested in investing in the segment,  Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi said after a meeting with Japan’s senior vice minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Hiroshi Kajiyama. â€Besides FDI, we are also looking at PPP projects to set up more budget hotels in the country. We want to promote Buddhist tourism and attract more inbound tourists from the Asian countries like Vietnam and Cambodia. But there is a shortage of quality budget accommodation and motels in Buddhist sites,  Chiranjeevi added. Japan and India will soon be signing an MoU to strengthen tourism cooperation between the two nations. India registered 1,93,525 Japanese tourists in 2011. The Tourism Ministry will be holding road shows in Tokyo on February 18 and on February 20 in Osaka. Japan International Cooperation Agency extended a loan of 7,331 million Japanese Yen (Rs 299 crore) for development of Ajanta Ellora Conservation and Development Programme. It also extended a loan for the development of Uttar Pradesh Buddhist Circuit Project for 9495 million Japanese Yen (Rs 396.63 crore) . Now â€Incredible India’ to woo Japan ------------------------------------ As part of plans to attract foreign tourists to India, the Union Tourism Ministry will take the â€Incredible India  campaign through road shows to Japan this month. Union Minister of State for Tourism K. Chiranjeevi told reporters here that road shows will be held in Tokyo and Osaka to showcase Indian destinations in Japan as part of the Incredible India campaign to woo more tourists. The two countries are in talks to ink a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the tourism sector. â€The two countries on Tuesday decided to strengthen cooperation in the tourism sector. We also discussed possibilities of signing an MoU for this purpose and the modalities of the MoU are being worked out,  said Dr. Chiranjeevi after meeting a delegation headed by Japan's senior Vice-Minister of Tourism Hiroshi Kajiyama. During the meeting it was decided that both countries will identify areas for working together and explore new opportunities in the tourism sector, especially in the field of human resource development, exchange of tour operators, investment in the tourism sector and exchange of information. â€We also offered investment opportunities in hospitality sector to Japan as the Government has allowed 100 per cent FDI in the sector,  he added. India and Japan are important tourism markets for each other. Japan is one of the top ten tourism generating markets for India as far as inbound tourism is concerned. India, Japan to cooperate on tourism : Dr. K Chiranjeevi --------------------------------------------------------- Dr. K Chiranjeevi, Minister of State for Tourism has called for strengthening cooperation in tourism sector between India and Japan in a meeting held in New Delhi today with Mr. Hiroshi Kajiyama, Senior Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Government of Japan. The Minister said both the countries have tremendous scope to develop tourism infrastructure with mutual help. Recalling the age old historic and cultural ties between both the nations, Dr. Chiranjeevi said it would be appropriate if we strengthen our ties by promoting bilateral tourism. He suggested signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between both the countries. Dr. Chiranjeevi informed the Japanese Minister about the India Tourism Road Shows Ministry is going to hold in Tokyo and Osaka on 18th and 20th February 2013 and invited Japanese stakeholders to participate in it in large number. It was also informed that in next 12 months Ministry of Tourism website will also be available in the Japanese language and Ministry is going to launch a telephone line in Japanese language for Japanese tourists. The Tourism Minister suggested that the two countries can promote an exchange programme wherein the tour operators and media can visit the each other’s country to understand the true tourism potential. There was also a suggestion to organize a special programme, wherein the HRD experts from India and Japan can visit some of the Hotel Management and Tourism Institute in both the countries and interact with the teaching faculty through conferences and seminars. The Japanese Minister said that both the countries have potential to strengthen bilateral ties by promoting tourism and expressed the hope that more and more tourists from both the sides will visit each other’s country. Mr. Kajiyama talked about public-private partnership in tourism sector and raised the issue of easy visa facilitation for the tourists. The Japanese side stressed on the need for developing special tour packages based on special needs of Indian tourists by Japanese Tour Operators. Japan agreed to follow100 percent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), in budget accommodation hotels in India. The Indian Tour Operators were requested to develop tour packages for Japanese women tourists since they prefer to travel alone. Both the sides were happy with the discussions held during the meeting and agreed that regular meetings may be organized between the two countries for the development of two way tourism. Mr. Kajiyama talked about public-private partnership in tourism sector and raised the issue of easy visa facilitation for the tourists. The Japanese side stressed on the need for developing special tour packages based on special needs of Indian tourists by Japanese Tour Operators. Recalling the age old historic and cultural ties between both the nations, Dr. Chiranjeevi said it would be appropriate if we strengthen our ties by promoting bilateral tourism. He suggested signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between both the countries.
