Terry Pratchett is a british fantasy/humor novel writer..
In his series of books is a book called "Small Gods" a very funny but thought provoking book..
His premise is gods become powerful (with their supernatural stuff, their influence in pantheon of gods) based on the following they have.. the book deals with gods who have seen limelight and got relegated to sidelines as new ones took over etc.. aa very good perspective (humorous as well) on religion and faith..

Baba is like Guru to me not god But To me guru is more powerful than god ..

It is the Greatest Spiritual Literature (or Book) in the world and is the quintessence of all Upanishads.
The Sloka (Not Poem) in full is given under :
"Shreyaan swadharmo vigunaha ,paradharmaat anusthitaat;
Swadharme nidhanam shreyaha , paradharmo bhayaavahaha.."
Externally the meaning appears that , your original, that which is hereditary to you as dharma (duty), though not pleasant and difficult is only the one you should follow, But not para dharama (Other Dharmas )
though appear attractive, luring , easy to follow and beautiful.
First please UNDERSTAND THE BHAGAVATH GEETA IS IMPARTING ATMA GNANAM AND DIVINE WISDOM.
So it will never,NEVER, think of caste system etc.The very caste system as explained in Bhagavath Geeta is also misinterpreted and by leaned scholars even it was thought to be anti social.It is not understanding the caste system in correct direction.( I agree in some periods these was absolutely misused and the lower community or caste people ( though there are none like that ) were oppressed.)
Hereactually one has to look at the word SWADHARMO....Who is SWA?
It is the Self of the person.What is its duty.....to gain such knowledge to realise HIM.
The paths prescribed may be very difficult, one is afraid to take to the path.The Geeta says , irrespective of your caste creed etc, your self is same and its Dharma is same for all.So One should take to that path finding or realising God,even though there are Paradharmas...other ways .....VICES...bad habbits...etc which attract very much.They are detrimental and do harm.
So what ever you are THE ONLY SWADHARMA (REALISING HIM) SHALL BE THE ONLY PATH TO ANY ONE IN SOCIETY WHO EVER HE MAY BE, EVEN IF ONE DIES IN PURSUIT OF THAT GNAANAM , IT IS GOOD.SO ONE SHOULD NEVER ALLOW HIS MIND TO GETTING ATTRACTED TOWARDS VICES LIKE SMOKING, BOOZING, ALL VICES , THOUGH THEY ARE EASY TO ACQUIRE AND ATTRACTIVE TOO.bUT THE SPOIL YOU IN EVERY WAY.
DO NOT UNNECESSARILY BRING THE CASTE INTO IT .IT IS TO ALL HUMAN BEINGS. |

Actually there is a real physical gain from praying - irrespective of God being there or not - I can tell you if you are willing to open your mind to it
I do my daily puja - not because I think God will reward me for doing the puja religiously - its because I know clearing my mind for those 15 mins , focussing on my ishtadaivam Gauri and reeiterating what's important to me - puts me in the right frame of mind for the day- the power of intent is very strong
There is scientific evidence for the change prayer brings - can you do that without belief in God - I am very sure you can - for me it is easier to focus on the Mother
