Narendra Modi's Delhi move nears, RSS relents
quote:Narendra Modi's move to New Delhi is beginning to look inevitable with the BJP's ideological patrons set to abandon their opposition to projecting a leader ahead of the 2014 general elections. It is now a question of how soon and in what role, with some in the party wanting him to take charge of the campaign panel while the man himself may be keener on staying put in Gandhinagar until the BJP removes the roadblocks to naming him PM candidate. The Gujarat chief minister won a third term in his state less than a month ago, but a slogan popular among his supporters captured the growing mood in the party: "CM for 2012 and PM for 2014." Now sources in the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), the BJP's right-wing parent, say that the Sangh bigwigs, who were initially opposed to Modi, will listen to the clamour for him from BJP workers and let him move ahead. "There is a green signal from the RSS for Modi," said an RSS insider. "The Sangh...will leave the matter of projecting Modi and its timing for the party to decide." For starters, Modi could be nominated to the BJP's parliamentary board and eventually be roped in to head the party's central election campaign and strategy panel, BJP sources said. This could happen once the election of the next BJP chief is completed and a new team takes charge, possibly by early February. But the big question is whether Modi will take the plunge without a guaranteed run at the top job. "Modi is not known to make half-baked moves. He goes for the kill only if his role is clear and objectives of involving him are clearly understood by all concerned," said a BJP functionary who is close to Modi. Modi is understood to be studying the "evolving situation" closely and sources said he has conveyed to senior BJP leaders that he needs six months to take care of Gujarat affairs. The Congress is set to debate the impact of any promotion for Modi at its Jaipur conclave beginning on Friday. "The Congress party has declared that Rahul Gandhi will be the face of its election campaign. But it has stopped short of saying he would become prime minister if the party-led UPA was re-elected for a third term. Modi has to be our face," said a BJP leader. In the event of his projection, Modi will also contest the Lok Sabha polls to send a strong message. A BJP insider added that the decision to project Modi might have to be taken independent of how the current allies of BJP, such as the Janata Dal (United), react. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has indicated he would part ways with the party if Modi gets a big role.

CHENNAI: The BJP cadres in Tamil Nadu rarely have a reason to celebrate with the party being a virtual non-entity in the state, but Thursday was different as Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, fresh from electoral success, came to attend a wedding. On his first visit to Chennai after his victory, Modi revelled in the reception organized at the airport where a small stage was erected for him near the high-security Gate No. 5, meant for VVIPs. Modi flew in by a chartered aircraft from Ahmedabad. Greeted with banners in Tamil proclaiming him as 'Varinkala Bharateeyam' (future of India), Modi harped on his favourite mantra of development and good governance. "People have a hunger for development. If they are not satisfied with the government, they will vote it out," Modi said in a brief speech in Hindi. BJP national executive member and state unit vice-president H Raja translated it into Tamil. The BJP stalwart also took pot shots at the Centre, saying that the Congress-led UPA government was steeped in corruption and accused it of "policy paralysis and bad governance." The cadres cheered as Modi paid homage to AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran on his 96th birth anniversary saying, "He worked for the betterment of the poor in Tamil Nadu." This was probably the first time that Modi was in the city when his close friend Jayalalithaa was away. Whisked away from the airport to a hotel in Nugambakkam for a wash and chat with state BJP chief Pon Radhakrishnan, Modi later proceeded to the venue of the wedding of Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani's granddaughter, party sources said. Ivaala Chennai city antha NaMo posters tho nindipoyindi .. Shri Modi welcomed in Chennai by large number of BJP workers
quote:On Thursday 17th January 2013 Shri Narendra Modi visited Chennai. Shri Modi landed in Chennai to a grand welcome organized by the Tamil Nadu BJP workers. Attacking the Congress-led UPA Government, Shri Modi said that while the people of India have a thirst of development, the UPA Government has comprehensively failed to give expression to the aspirations of the people. He pointed that due to their working, corruption and lack of development the UPA has ruined the dreams of the nation and has betrayed the trust of the people of India. The workers congratulated Shri Modi on leading the BJP to a record victory in the Gujarat Vidhan Sabha Elections 2012. Shri Modi pointed that those Governments that are unable to fulfill the dreams of development cannot win the trust of the people. But, Gujarat is a state where the BJP Government has received a record mandate and the Government has won the trust of the people, making them active partners in the quest for development and good governance. It is due to these efforts that today Gujarat is a model state of development while due to the Congress-led the UPA there is an atmosphere of gloom and pessimism across the nation. Shri Narendra Modi declared that except for development there is no solution to the problems the people of India face. The Chief Minister paid tributes to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Shri MG Ramachandran. He wrote on Twitter, "Today is 96th birth anniversary of legendary former Tamil Nadu CM & evergreen hero of Tamilians, Thiru MGR. I greet all his fans & followers." He also Tweeted, "In Chennai today. After being re-elected by the people of Gujarat, this is my 1st visit to Tamil Nadu & Chennai." Tamil Nadu BJP President Shri P Radhakrishnan welcomed Shri Modi at Chennai Airport.
