Nenu cheppedhi kooa aa time lone. IIT Madras nundi about 40-50% students used to go for MS in their own stream. Most of them stick to their traditional fields. About 20% of them go on to do PhDs. Take a look at any of the recent IIT faculty profile. Almost 90+% of them are ex-IIT students returning from US with PhDs from top universities. Only during the dot-com booms (1997-2001), a lot of IITians used to switch into IT for a job or MS. These days, top companies like Facebook, Google almost never recruit non-CS graduates and it is the same with top US universities. Among the 50% that reamin in India, I agree a majority of them switch to IT but they do not stay there for long. Most of them end up doing an MBA a few of them get into Civil Services. | ||

Old fashioned people like me look for the hunger to innovate, perform and create something....which is missing in most of today's grads..... Instead of joining a company like Siemens or DuPont they are preferring to join a Facebook since FB pays more.....when that is the attitude no one can help.... Infact the hunger to work and prove oneself is evident in M.Scs and B.Scs from rural areas...give them an opportunity and they will learn and deliver - even ready to work for 16 hrs a day..... | ||

Typo corrected: This is far from truth. Lot of IIT students specialize in their traditional engineering streams. You are probably generalizing based on 1 or 2 people you know. I agree a lot of IT jobs would not need some one with high qualifications, but a lot of IT jobs also need people with very good qualifications. 99% of the jobs ki BTech akkarledhu anedhi too much. I would say probably around 70% might not need good qualifications. I am not saying only IIT = good qualifications. | ||

Engineering profession is held in high reverence in the society and engineers enjoy high social ranking.Compared to other branches of science,engineering as a discipline,is the most fascinating and sought after.But due to the corrupt governance which was corroborate about the decision makings had marred the position of engineering education in Andhra Pradesh.This condition was rooted due to the carte-blanche which was given to the officials at the down-stream levels.The approval of hudreds of engineering colleges had made the situation of engineering education even more worser.Fee-reimbursement was biggest bane for engineering education.Only the best,brilliant and hard working minds must compete and pursue the engineering,but the situation had altered altogether. Most of the students who are jobless are because they don't have enough skills(terrible skills) and talent to be successful at that particular level,but the answer they give--recession.Even in recession period some students are successful in getting 3 to 5 offers from various companies,it is due to their skillset and talent. So,government must act accordingly and reduce the amount of engineering colleges,only the top colleges(top 25 to 40 colleges) must hold their place,it's time to bring back the glory of engineering education which was lost long time ago. I don't like to waste time making a point on someone that ain't going to understand the point in the first place.
