The “expert”, Dr K Ghanshyam Reddy, was arrested by CBI sleuths in Patna from a hotel where he was allegedly waiting for the question paper to be leaked by the seven dummy women candidates who were appearing for the exam in Chandigarh on Saturday. He was remanded in police custody till November 19. “Dr Ghanshyam is pursuing PhD from a university in Vellore,” said a CBI sleuth, adding that they were tipped about Reddy by the same source who had informed them about the scam. CBI DIG Mahesh Aggarwal said, “The seven girls arrested by CBI are not medical students. They are doing graduation in different colleges in Andhara Pradesh. All 14 arrested are from Andhra All the 14 people arrested by the CBI on Saturday for the paper leak and exam scam are from Andhra Pradesh. Among them was P Guirivi Reddy, who was arrested for a similar racket in Andhra Pradesh in 2009. While Reddy and six others were arrested from a city hotel, seven candidates — all girls — were nabbed from four different examination centers in the city. All of them have been booked for forgery and cheating. On Saturday morning, CBI sleuths swooped down on the hotel and nabbed Reddy and his accomplices while he was dictating answers to seven students over his phone. A scanned copy of the question paper, allegedly mailed by one of the candidates, was on his laptop. CBI DIG Mahesh Aggarwal, explaining the modus operandi, told TOI that one of the candidates had clicked photos of the question paper with a spy camera and mailed it to Reddy. "The camera and phone were hidden in her undergarments. The photo was mailed to Reddy's laptop in the 'control room' by the girl," said Aggarwal. "Reddy then acquired answers to the questions on phone from experts in Hyderabad and Patna. The answers could be heard by the girls through earphones cleverly hidden in their hair, which had been left open," Aggarwal added. According to Aggarwal, each candidate paid between Rs 1 lakh and 2.50 lakh to Reddy. | ||

It may be mentioned here that one Gurivi Reddy was already arrested on Saturday in connection with the high-tech copying.
