RIP, they must have been playing in a shallow end and must have been taken away by a big wave. They could have escaped from the wave maybe but might have not worried and done nothing. Also possible they went a little far from the beach, although shallow, a big wave might have taken them away. It is unlikely all six might have died due to some under water current bashing them against a rock.In all probability, they must have not known swimming. sigh! just destiny. | ||

Search is on for them while another student who was also washed away by the currents, was rescued. Naval helicopters scrambled from the nearby Eastern Naval Command to assist the police in search operations, but their mission had to be called off as light failed. Marine police officials were however, continuing the search using boats, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) V. Suresh Babu said. The students had ventured into the sea after the first year classes ended by noon. The university had organised a fete and some other programmes too. A group of four women and four men of different branches ventured onto the beach around 3 p.m. Ignoring the warnings of locals, three women and four men entered the waters in a remote corner of the beach. One of the young women refused to enter water and stayed back. As the strong currents dragged the hapless students, three local certified swimmers rushed to their help. But they could rescue only one student, who was later identified as B. Rahul Babu. Scores of students from GITAM University rushed to the beach on learning about the tragedy. Sad incident.
