Kdnumber1:I was in same situation in 2007, I spoke with hospital Billing manager over phone for a month daily....finally they adjust with the bill, somehow the manager add more things to bill and got from insurance company....finally i did not pay anything....it took almost 6+ months from Aug07-Jan08
Vijay77:What are all your suggestions?
Starting talking to people who lived in similar situations....I will talk to Kd1 and get to know how to negotiate (or what to negotiate).... One more thing there is no immediate answer or solution to this .... so have patience as this involves large groups to be involved......and everyone tries to push it on the other......it will definitely eat your time....factor that before you start... |

Vijay77:Balupu bhayya. Doctor in-network lo vunte, evarina out-of-network hospital ni suggest chesthara
you have a case to fight.. just talk to the Dr. she will talk to the hospital.. do not pay the out-of network.. don't be soft.. talk to the dr. that it is not your responsibility.. you have so many things that supports your case.. 1. Regular visiting Dr. should look after your insurance since she is the one who took care at the hospital. 2. She can cut her fees from hospital if needed 3. since the hospital was in-network. you can talk to insurance and the hospital.. over all let your Dr. take the lead since she is responsible.. you difinetely have a case.. out of network pay cheyamaku.. tell them you will only in-network.. |

Alochinchu:Is the Dr. affiliated with that hospital? Is the same Dr. did C-section?
She is the same doctor who checkedup my wife regularly. She is in HUMANA in-network. She does the C-sectionS in that Hospital ONLY. She is the same one who recommended this hospital and did C-section to my wife. Unfortunately, she was not aware that it was pulled out of HUMANA. Alochinchu:ayina when having major thing at hospital you should have checked that first..

Vijay77:Ikkada pichekkuthundi. Emi cheyyali. Moosukoni, bill kattevala?
ventane kattamaku.. 180 days dhaka problem undadhu.. find different ways to cut down by taking suggestions.. Is the Dr. affiliated with that hospital? Is the same Dr. did C-section? if the dr. for regular visit has nothing to do with that hospital you will be responsible.. ayina when having major thing at hospital you should have checked that first.. anyway.. first talk to the Dr. who recommended the hospital to you.. do not blame him.. tell him what happened and tell him since you are seeing them you expected the hospital suggested will be in-network.. find out what he can do or suggest.. you have to talk to your insurnace and explain.. do you have any other hospital near in-network? if not you can tell them there is no in-network and you had to go out-of-network.. finally two things.. 1. Talk to hospital and convince them to take in-network fees 2. Talk to Insurance and ask them to pay the differnce. some time you can conference them and make negotiations.. over all ga nuvvu $4000 extra kattalisivastundhi.. so they can accomodate that i guess. |

Vijay77:Bill vachi, few weeks/months negotiations lo vundaga collection agency ki enni months pampistharu.
it takes at least 6 months to reach to that stage, No hospital wants to throwin unpaid bills to collection agencies..they loose over 70% once they turn them in. - Ask for the Medical records from hospital, their lawyers ask you for the reasons, tell them .. you have doubts over the medical procedures they used, you think they did unnecessary procedures to jump up the costs not covered by the insurance. After asking lot of questions, Either they offer you a very good discount to calm you donw or in worst case will send you huge pile of records for free of charge. Not knowing which state you are located cant say whom to contact, but Medical records come with the Government Agency information for additional help if you think the hospital violated anything. Go through each record, you can find lot of unnecessary charges/procedures in it, call them back saying..you are going to contact the government agency to review these documents. they will try to have discussion with you, in worst case, you are not going to loose anything, just turn them over to the govt agency with a letter attached to it. keep saying..you cant afford to pay that bill, they will continue to offer more & more discount, Keep paying $50 or $100 monthly until they really turn it over to collection agency. Even when it is in Collection Agencies hand, the agency calls you to negotiate hard offering discount %, your credit history does not affect at all if you pay at that stage. The agency usually offer you the final discount, ideally should bring down 10k..close to 4k or lower. Meanwhile..read your Insurance policy fine prints, try to get them pay more .everytime you call ask for the Manager's of usual Reps. good luck |

usual ga at least 3 months time istaaru, konni hospitals 4 months istaaru, sending you reminder bills almost every month. After that, you will get a final notice indicating if you do not pay, your bill will be sent to collections department. Still you can call them and ask them put a hold on it as you are negotiating on the amount. So, long story short, you have a quite a bit of time to deal with this. Don't worry. |

Vijay77: Finally at what amount I could settle if the final bill is $10000.
First of all, congrats on the new baby. Now, go home and take care of your wife and the new born. I am not sure why you are worried about the bills already. Tell the hospital to mail you the bills and you will take care of them later. In the mean time, tell doctor's office that they misinformed you about hospital. They may help you in negotiating a lower payment with the hospital since hospital gets business from the doctors. Once you get the bills, get in touch with billing department and doctor's office, have a conference call if need be, and negotiate hard. You may end up paying more than 2000, but definitely not 10000. How much you pay depends on how hard you will argue with Doctor's office and Hospital, in that order. |

My humana plan is 2000 in-network deductable. 6000 out network and 30-70 afterwards. Maximum 12000 out of pocket. My wife went for regular checkup during pregnacny and doctor is in-network. Doctor suggested for C-section at another hospital which was once in-network. On 9/19, my wife delivered the baby. When I went today to make payment, office lady said that this hospital is outOfNetwork. Instead of 2000 as I expected it could be around $10000. What should I do in this situation: Mistakes: (1) Doctot thought that it was in-network and doctor's office was never informed by hospital that it was pulled out of network. (2) Doctor scheduled it one month before and told us that hospital will contact us. but never contacted. (3) Hospital said it was the duty of the patient to fill the in-patient admit form before joining, then they would have discussed about the benifits. But my doctor didn't give me the form. I didn't have any communication with hospital until 9/19 morning. (4) When I gave my insurance card on 9/19 morning, lady didn't even said that this hospital is out-of-network. (5) I didn't check if this hospital is in network or not as doctor office once said that i have to pay $2000. When I asked for the clarification today, docor office said that they said about doctors benefit but my plan benifits. For all these mistakes, it was messed up and I have to pay around 10000 instead of 2000. What are all your suggestions? |
