Yes you can redeem AA miles on Etihad (and that is probably the best way to redeem AAdvantage miles), only catch is availability. They might not open all the award seats to AA. Nenu cheppindi, you can not earn AA miles on Etihad flights between US and Abu Dhabi ani. For example if you are flying from ORD -> AUH -> HYD on Etihad, you can earn AAdvantage miles only on AUH->HYD segment anukuntaa. For getting an one-way economy ticket from ORD->MAA for example, you need 82956 miles. On United or US Airways, you need only 40k miles for the same ticket. for 60K miles you get Business class and for 80K you will get 1st class (if it is a 3 cabin flight) On AA you need 45 K miles for economy. Etihad gives you only 50% of the actual miles flown for discount economy tickets. So usually what works out is, accumulate miles on domestic carriers (even if you are traveling internationally) and redeem this miles on international airlines. for example, I redeemed 60K United miles to buy a one-way ticket to India on Qatar's Biz class (it is a 2 cabin flight only). I accumulated 70K United miles without flying a single flight this year. another 55K on the way. Soon, if do choose to fly on Star Alliance flights (most probably Lufthansa) then another 18K miles will be added to United account. It is easy to accumulate United, US Airways, American, Delta miles. Delta is hard to redeem. So, rest of the three are preferable choices for international travel. AA partners with Etihad. So, in theory (although they might not be available all the time), you can book the Etihad tickets with AAdvantage miles.
