Right now there are issues with management credibility. Mako has lowered systems guidance range by 24% at midpoint since January. Also, sales cycles have become more complex. Last year HMA purchased 13 systems, which might pulled forward system sales. Hospitals are pushing out the sales. Zimmer is launching a new system (not sure how successful it will be, not FDA approved yet). Lowered system sales to 42-48 from prior 52-58 and 56-62 to start the year. 2013 estimates are also coming down, around 47 total systems. I think mgmt. has to put up at least couple of good quarters, for the stock to work here. On the bright side someone can buy them 40% cheap. |

Mako Surgical (NASDAQ: MAKO) is one of the most active stocks today along with Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) and Armour Residential (NYSE: ARR). For the shareholders of Mako, unfortunately the stock is falling...big time. Mako Surgical is trading well below its 20-day, 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Mako Surgical just announced that second quarter results would be disappointing. As one analyst wrote, "Two quarters of year-on-year declines in system placements is a legitimate worry. There are ample questions as to whether the RIO system is really necessary and whether it can really produce better outcomes in the hands of skilled surgeons. At the same time, there are concerns among hospital administrators as to whether there is enough return on the investment to justify writing a large check for this particular piece of equipment." But another analyst recently wrote about Mako Surgical, "The company has not turned a profit. But MAKO has zero long-term debt and has enjoyed a stellar five-year sales growth rate of 325%. Earnings are expected to grow 30% per year in the coming five years, compared to 18% for the medical appliance and equipment industry average. I think this company has spectacular growth potential fueled by boomers who want to stay active for as long as possible." Who is this DB member? |

Conquas:
Bro..I just came across this forecast in a website..Do you think this is going to happen? --> “By 2013, the ability of policy makers to kick the can down the road is going to run out of steam.” --> “The U.S. looks close to stall-speed and a recession, given the latest economic data.” --> “The landing of China is becoming harder rather than softer.” --> “The other emerging markets are all sharply slowing down in terms of growth —the BRICs (China, Russia, India, Brazil) and also Mexico, Turkey. Partly it’s because there’s a recession in the Eurozone and U.K., partly it’s because they’re not doing their reforms.” -->“Finally there is the time bomb of a potential war between Israel and the U.S. and Iran. Negotiations have failed. The sanctions will fail . . . Regardless of whether it is Obama elected or Romney, chances are the U.S. is going to decide to go and attack Iran and then you’ll have a doubling in global oil prices overnight.” --“You could have a collapse of the eurozone, a U.S. double-dip, hard-landing of China, hard-landing of emerging markets, and a war in the Middle East. Next year could be a global perfect storm.” The bottom line, says Roubini, is that the next global downturn could be much worse than the one the world endured in 2008-2009, since central banks and governments have run out of “policy bullets” to fix the problems. “Today, more QE (quantitative easing) is becoming less and less effective because the problems are of insolvency, not illiquidity. Fiscal deficits are already so large that everybody has to cut them, not increase them,” he told Bloomberg. “We are running out of policy bullets. So if a freefall of markets and the economy does occur, you don’t have any more of a safety net of enough policy bullets to try to absorb the shocks, because we’ve been spending the last four years using 95 per cent of those bullets. So we are running out of bullets.” |

Conquas:Emi deal adhi brother
Cong call in a nut shell: They stuck to the same story as last quarter. That it was a 2 unit miss that "literally went to the last day" but didn't get signed in time for the Q2 numbers. Claiming that they haven't lost a single sale & that they're just getting pushed back as now that they're transitioning in the early adopter stage, they are getting lengthier processes i.e. more physicians in a particular hospital need to sign off or it goes to the CEO but then a set of administrators need to sign off. JP Morgan analyst made a good point that as hip ramps up shouldn't you be getting more doctors to sign off on a particular system anyway and meeting that threshold? Claim they lowered the RIO estimate due to the longer times they are seeing to close and not to any lost sales. Also said that the pricing pressure they experienced in Q1 weren't there this time around. 2590 procedures done in Q2, 2,494 of those were domestic. 280 were total hips. Utilization rates at 7.2 compared to 6.6 in Q1 and 6.4 in Q2 2011. Sold 9 Total Hip Applications. 7 with new bots and two were upgrades. 71% of RIOs now have HIP. Claim hospital interest remains strong as does surgeon interest/engagement. Mako surgeon bioskills courses are booked into November. Says thats a leading indicator. Hip 2.0 program rec'd FDA clearance. Provides speed improvements and now allows for direct anterior approach. Morgan Stanley noticed uni growth went from 90% over the years to 40+%. MAko says that hospitals plateau at about the 2 year mark. New hospitals and hip should increase? Regarding cash burn. Says their burn rate in Q2 in line with expectations. Comfortable with cash on hand and access, if needed, to Deerfield $50M credit line. 2 results on August 1st and says they will provide more color on results and guidance on new hip systems, etc. Naakonchem tikkundi...kaani daanikoka lekkundi... |
