What I really really liked: 1) Every dialog in the film - very 3vikramish. Is it a coincidence that 3vik was specially thanked in rolling titles? 2) Cinematography - top notch. Though the entire movie is set in a village, jayanan made full use of the natural beauty of pollachi. Pawan looked RAVISHING after 10 yrs. 3) Entertainment - first class, clean, heart warming entertainment. I can't count the number of times I broke out into splits. What I loved, admired and adored: Pawan freaking Kalyan - For the last 10 yrs I wanted to see him in a certain way..in a way that I couldn't quite articulate. I hated him in Johnny, thought he went overboard in gudumba and was embarrased for most of his movies thereafter. So I went into the theater not knowing what to expect, but was cautiously optimistic about Harish Shankar's abilities. I hoped he knew how he wanted to see pk being a fanatic himself. 5 minutes into the movie, I knew I wouldn't be embarrased...15 minutes into the movie I couldn't help but realize PK is doing 'something' right, 'something' he hasn't done in years..by the end of mandu babulu song, a wicked, happy, satiated smile that was in the making for 11 years had taken shape on my face....it turned into a hysteric laughter during pilla song and continued for most of the movie..at the end of the movie I found the answer to my dilemna - THIS WAS HOW I WANTED TO SEE PAWAN KALYAN.....no OA sister, puuuuure charisma, unprecedented screen presence and a controlled, entertaining performance I haven't seen Dabang so I couldn't draw any parallels between the two...so that didn't get in my way..however what I did not like were (i) sruthi was under-utilized (ii) predictable pre-climax and a boring climax fight all said and done, what I remember now are flashes of pk's incredible charisma and some of his histrionics....I can't wait to go back to the theater - a desire that did not resurface after kushi. |
