horizontally clustered.. 2 servers, each with 2 instances.. the one i tried on b4 moving it to prod is a stand alone test server with only one instance n it worked fine.. (Message edited by blackmamba on April 02, 2012) | ||

is your prod a cluster env? If it is cluster what kind of cluster it is (Vwertical or Horizontal)? Horizonatal ayete issue emi vundakudadu. Vertical cluster ayye and if lof file location is same for both then you will have this issue. Try to have different log names for different instances in Vertical cluster | ||

Mamba see below.... We have an application which uses log4j to log its log messages, we are using rolling file appender and the roll over size is 5MB. Every thing runs fine when we have only one instance of this application running. The file gets rolled over after crossing 5MB. We are facing a problem only when we start the same application two times (in two different JVMS). The log file does not get roll over even after crossing 5MB. We have this problem as two log 4j instances ( running in different JVMS) are accessing the same file in parallel. The case might be that log 4j has a file pointer which is not refreshed when another instance of log 4j (running in different JVM) updates the same file. Is there any way to refresh the PropertyConfigurator setting. | ||

but its writing the first file, it just doesnt create the rest of the files. i think the thread that creates the rest of the files or overwrites the exiting files is not starting in a timely fasion or i dont think it would be running with a different set of permissions. the world of appearances may or may not be real, or both may and may not be real - or may be indescribable; or may be real and indescribable, or unreal and indescribable; or in the end may be read and unreal and indescribable - its all Syadvada | ||

Could it be write permission issues? Usually production server hardware is locked down and users are not given rights to create new files. Where are you creating logs? Is it with in the application folder structure of outside the application folder structure? Keeping the log location within the application folder structure is recommended. On the other hand, the initial file is getting created, so this may not be an issue at all. | ||
