come i will tell you one more secret. take a green day like today. add the percentages of both NASDAQ and DOW. today it is 0.71 Now check your gain today. You know your closing portfolio value yday. now calculate your empirical factor like this. 0.71 X k = g/P. then fine tune this over a period of time. that way, you will know exactly how much your portflio moved even w/o logging in. that gives kind of a secret power. also stress free investing. kathi, there is something called correlation factor. you need to check your portfolio correlation factor. I can tell howmuch my port folio moved without logging in +/- $100 bucks. my formula is this ((% gain of nasdaq+ %gain of dow) *0.95 )*portfolio. btw, 30% of my portfoli is apple, 20% is gold and related, 20% is Internet search related and 20% is bio so that answers your question in another way.
