i dont know much but nimmagadda wasnt like carl icahn, if ichan acquired a sick company, he would chop and sell the companies, but nimmagadda got lucky when a few sick companies that he acquired grew substantially. icahn is sometimes referred as a corporate raider. nimmagadda isnt a raider. Staying focused on the domestic pharma space, Prasad set his eyes on the global pharma-scape by acquiring Belgium-based Docpharma in June 2005, a controlling stake in China’s McChem Group. He also floated a JV South Africa’s Aspen Pharmacare in September 2005, and picked 43% stake in Switzerland’s Explora Laboratories SA the same year. In 2006, Matrix Laboratories aligned with Mylan Laboratories, USA, the world’s third largest Generic Pharmaceutical Company at present. Nimmagadda Prasad, better known as Matrix Prasad to the general public, has been grilled several times by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with his investments in the business empire of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy as a quid pro quo gesture to the benefits doled out to him by the then Y S Rajasekhara Reddy government in the form of several projects like VANPIC etc. In fact, Nimmagadda is said to be the key investor in Jagan’s group of companies, as he had managed to bring in many other “benami” investors into the group. At one stage, there were reports that he would be arrested in Jagan’s case, but somehow he managed to escape the arrest. According to reliable sources, the Kamma lobby has been strongly lobbying with the powers-that-be to see that Prasad is not arrested at any cost. If required, he would extend all cooperation to the CBI and might even turn an approver in Jagan’s case on the lines of T Ranga Rao of Stylish Homes in the Emaar Properties case.
