Greg Chappel sent him up the batting order....that put tremendous pressure on him. Infact, he delivered as the batsman many times. But when the performance/selection criterion was the yardstick, they considered him just as a bowler and he lost his place, because he lost the fire by then, in his bowling | ||

irfan, while he took wickets, looked very easy to bat..not at all threatening.. I was surprised he was even given new ball..No swing, no pace..no length. When he came onto the scene in international cricket, he was really good and must have really lost the focus.. Umesh can be a genuine fast bowler but he needs to have the variations to trick the batsman.. he should be groomed with proper training. Sachin was really in good touch for his age. hitting all the balls in the middle of the bat..I liked his batting in all the matches except in one where he was injured and came to bat as opener and threw his wicket. But luck was not on his side this time.. all good starts ended with either poor shot or some very good bowling.. lanka did a commendable job with the kind of bowlers they have.. Malinga delivers very good balls very rarely, atleast this season.. Horrible bowling throughout the series.. Rest of them are mediocre anyway.. They have to thank Chandimal for this scenario.. Amazing, very composed batsman, he has been. Dhoni.. as always hit and miss as he does not have much to loose.. If he clicks... great finisher blah..blah.. ... fails... then next game to do hit-n-miss. | ||

he was bowling too short..not sure why someone would rely on a bouncer in ODIs.. same case with Irfan..bowling too much on the middle and leg in ODIs... they have to go back to school..as to how to bowl in ODIs | ||

Current SA and Aussie batting is not so much dependent on openers. Warner barely played a decent knock except perth in the whole series and that kid Marsh (he is # 3 though) was an embarrassment. yes, Mcdermett did an excellent job. Aussie bowlers had plans laid out for all our batsmen. They tormented us with short pitch stuff, tested with full length deliveries. Dravid had a dreadful time and so did Lax & Viru. gauti kurrod compiled runs both in tests n odis but not convincingly..he is short of confidence. Oka game lo just 3 fast bowlers tho muppu tippalu pettar tests lo he should start playing with a straight bat and not use that jab shot towards 3rd man. Rahul was not fully stretching..playing half coXck..which means tentative..not confident.. Lax/Veeru are timing players..but they were playing their normal game..its just that the reaction from them was few milli seconds slower and that was enough at 150 kmph to get their wicket.. you can see Sehwag swishing at fresh air most of the time.. | ||

I will give aussie bowlers some credit here. The way they used the conditions, short bursts by super quick bowlers and longer spell for workhorses like Hilfi. Aussie bowling coach McDermott deserves some praise. They just kept building the pressure and our batter were just not good enough to counter it. Coming to Sachin. It's not just him....who performed below his past performance in Australia. Veeru, Rahul & Lax all failed and every performed far below their previous numbers. Dhoni's test stats doesn't even deserve a discussion so I will not waste my time. Indian team is highly dependent on openers. If they don't perform...most of the time we fail to put up good scores. Same thing happened in England also. Basically, our batting is built on openers seeing off new ball and middle order making the bowlers life difficult strategy. Aussie bowlers managed to create the hole in our batting fort by removing openers quickly in all the innings & result is a whitewash. Fan of Fab 5: Sachin, Rahul, Saurav, Laxman and Kumble. | ||

jackson tamud, i agree Sachin didn't score up to his potential in tests but do u remember in 1st 2 tests or so when he was on song, he kept loosing partners on other side. of corse last 2 tests lo wick gift ichadu. Test lo mana middle order fail avvadaniki main reason openers failure..they couln't see the new ball for at least 15 overs in any game. | ||
