In respect of important parameters like execution of contracts and closing down a business, Hyderabad ranks number 1 in the country. The main finding of the study is that doing business is easier in Ludhiana and Hyderabad and more difficult to start and operate a business in Kochi and Kolkata. Idhenti - nidara lesi choosthe inni posts unnayi deeni meda. To keep it easy and simple, i opened another thread. I honestly did not go through all the posts. Just a few other random thoughts and pointers: a) To some who said that Karnataka too is rotting - it has been definitely been dragged down by the BJP government, but the state has inherent advantages in terms of water, power, climate etc. which keep it in good stead. Unfortunately we do not have any such natural advantages. AP has to try harder. Pakkani vadikante rendu retlu ekkuva kashta padali. b) I see TN as the next basket case - they never ever used to have power cuts. But now they have 10 hour power cuts (even before summer started). Robbing the state in terms of redistribution of wealth and backward class justice etc. by the DMK has sunk the state. Corruption and freebie cultures. The same diseases as AP. But the people there atleast kicked the DMK out. c) I find it silly that people feel that NRIs take a jaundiced view and the people in the state are happy. That is what i meant by institutionalising corruption - if almost everyone is corrupt (giving or taking), they feel that is the accepted mode of behaviour and castigate the rest for being an outsider. d) AP has a demographic weakness - we have reached a stage in our society that the number of people who are being added to the population is equal to the deaths. In others words we are at the replacement level of population growth. Unless we make the state attractive to outsiders for investments, education, etc. we will languish. But now - leave aside attracting people, you are driving away whoever you have. If you go to many villages in India, they are nothing but extended old age homes. Most have migrated to the US or to bigger cities in AP or India. Transparency is the first thing to get in place e) Bihar is indeed at a cusp of great things. Another anecdode - i have a friend running a courier business in Mumbai. He was telling me that he is finding it difficult to get courier boys (most of them were Biharis) as most of them are returning to their state. That is what we need to do. Get "mana vallu" back to the state and create that economic and social vibrancy. I would love to come back one day like that courier boy of Bihar. |
