Filmbuff:They are always portrayed as talkative, happy, jumping around, bubbly (that is what any 2 bit heroine says her character is,in interviews). So there is nothing unique in her.
First half lo haasini character chusi total ga stereotype chesthunnaru anipisthundi. You gotta take Haasini's characet in second half as well..Sidharth tho marriage ki emphatic ga NO cheppe range ki mature avuthundi haasini character.. If haaisni is semi retard then what is roopa? roopa comes across as a woman who misinterprets stubornness as confidence.. ..she grows up all alone yet she is not capable of seeing that her Mr.Right is not right untill her annoying mother in law demands to wear a stupid saree. I will say this about Anand .. I liked Anita ( Satya) more than roopa. Ashta Chemma lo Swathi comedy timing was fabulous other than that there was nothing to that character to take home with you.IMO! |

There is nothing to not like in Haasini's characterisation. The problem is that it is typical of movie heroines where we paint these people in broad brushstrokes. They are always portrayed as talkative, happy, jumping around, bubbly (that is what any 2 bit heroine says her character is,in interviews). So there is nothing unique in her. You might not like Roopa's character - that is the director's pregorative, but we have to accept that the role was etched very well. There can be a thousand shades to a person, but most of our directors have not read enough or observed or lived enough to paint a picture in a shade other than giggling loud stupid semi-retard. By the way - i have to add Swathi's character in Ashta Chemma and Nithya's character in Ala Modalaindi (two of my fav movies of late in Telugu). |

hmmm..I liked haasini in bommarillu over Roopa of Anand. Haasini is a package - bubbly, naughty, childish and when it matters she shows utmost confidence. Roopa ayithe - Mondi pilla.Thaanu pattina kundelu ki 3 kaaLLu ane types. That said - I agree Gautam menon Heroines, by far have the best characterization.. Jyothika in Khakha khakha - best of all. |

Enti Kaburlu - Jessie of YMC is fine, but it was not a Telugu film. I don't think anybody contends that YMC is a Telugu movie. BTW - Gautam Menon has great female characters in all his movies. And Haasini of Bommarillu - she is fun, but not a natural character, one of the typical bubbly chatter-box heroines. Many people actually hate that characterisation, especially women. Roopa of Anand - accepted. I am not saying that the solution is to get Telugu heroines but it is one of the malaises that is rather painful for me. Nowadays everyone from characters actors to villians are non-Telugu. In that case, why don't i watch a dubbed movie instead. The heroes want to marginalise everyone. That is my grouse. The comedians are the only saving grace. |

Filmbuff:Until we get out of this fixation with heroes and their love for heroines who cant speak our language, I can only curse the film industry. This is a topic dear to my heart.
that is not the solution. no industry behaves against its market. if you examine any thriving film industry including Hollywood, there are always big-hero big-budget productions. actually industry needs such blockbusters for advancing the science behind the art. sometimes the process is as valuable as the result. the problem for smaller markets like telugu is the threshold of production and distribution budget is very high. if you can somehow make a lot of movies, say 3X the number of movies they make now, the quality automatically improves. for that to happen, the size of the market has to increase. they need to release the movie pan-indian with subtitles on day#1. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. |

My views (not reviews rather) on Sri Rajyam and Journey Sri Rajyam (Arjun, Kukatpally) saw this around the 6th week. Hall was around 50% full on a weekday matinee which I thought was not bad. I would like to say that the movie was great, unfortunately I cant. To be fair to everyone and especially Bapu, they did the best they could given the subject. The subject, being so intrinsically archaic in its mores, does not appeal to the modern viewer. People say that Lava Kusa was better etc. but Lava Kusa chusina ade anipisthadi. The subjects have not dated well. Bapu did an excellent job the production design, costumes, songs picturisation etc were all fantastic without being overblown like a Sanjay Leela Bhansali production. They looked apt, subtle and artistic. The movie could have been 20 mins shorter some scenes went on and on. But I have no qualms with anyone who made the movie, only with the story writer who wrote Lava Kusa in the first place. What a horrid piece of morality play. Journey (Bhramaramba, Kukatpally) first time in this theatre. Awesome theatre, one of the best in the cities right now. Chinnapudu Devi, Shanti etc. ela undevo ala undi. Iraga.. I did not get ticket for a Sunday second show. Went again next Sunday, got ticket, again housefull. On the movie my movie of the year. By a long stretch. Where do the Tamil guys come up with such brilliant, subtled, nuanced characterization. And kudos to the Tamil producers like Murugadoss and Shankar who are producing such lovely movies, better than the movies they themselves direct. I doubt anyone not to fall in love with the Madhumati (Anjali ) character. One of the best female roles I have seen of late. Can any one name one such instance that we can say in a Telugu movie of late where you fondly remember the ladies in a movie after coming out. I searched on the net and found that the Anjali girl who played Madhumati was a Telugu girl from E. Godavari. Hats off, dear, chimpesavu. It is a loss for us that our girls like Anjali, Swati, etc have to seek roles elsewhere. Until we get out of this fixation with heroes and their love for heroines who cant speak our language, I can only curse the film industry. This is a topic dear to my heart. And finally in a nutshell Ramarajyam adalsinantha aduthandi (you cant expect more than this viewership for this past-expiry- date stories) and Journey is an example to all our Telugu brethren and to those who say that we dont watch different stuff. From what I could see Journey was running very well. And now I will close my eyes and remember and weep for Madhumati. |
