His party lost elections.Tragedy was that Chiru himself lost elections in his hometown.He was smart enough to contest from Tirupati too where he won with great difficulty.Unable to operate his party and unwilling to sit in opposition, Chiru merged his party in madam Sonia's Congress. Popular rumour was that Chiru would be gifted central cabinet ministry, which never happened.Then there were rumors that he will be made PCC Chief which of course remains far from truth.Every time TV channels lack stories, they air 'sources said' reports that PRP MLAs will be given ministries in state cabinet.Worse, there were even rumors that Chiru will be made Tirupati Urban development authority Chairman. Chiru whose numero uno position as a star remained uncontested for three decades, is now neither a star nor a politician.He is neither in the ruling party nor in the opposition.He is neither a leader nor a follower.He is neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.He is neither a CM nor a defacto CM.He is neither completely in politics nor in the film industry.His fate hangs in mid air-absolute-'Trishanku' style. From his moves in politics, it is evident that Chiranjeevi is naive.He was brought into politics by 'well-wishers' presenting him a rosy picture of grand entry-face elections-become CM-wave to people from an open top jeep-sign autographs-pose for photographs-enjoy a traffic-free convoy! Chiru failed to realize that politics unlike in cinema is more behind the screens than on it.With flickering stand on pressing issues,lack of ideology,absence of cadre,allegations of sale of MP /MLA seats for Rs 5 crore each, ignorance of local sentiments Chiru lost even before he contested elections.His actions built a huge trust deficit for himself.He didn't have a single respectable face in his party.The think-tank of his party,Mr Mitra and Mr Parakala Prabhakar left PRP claiming lack of genuine will in Chiru to bring in the change in the current political system.Instead of inducting youngsters with good motives, PRP sheltered political unemploys from other parties. Post defeat, Chiru said that he didn't get enough time to face elections and hence his party lost.His decision to merge his party into Congress came as a rude shock to many of his die hard fans.Atleast 20 fans who came to see their superstar, died of electric shock, accidents and stampedes.They came to Chiru's rallies believing that their matinee idol would bring in 'change' in our political system.Little did they know that their favorite hero will sub'merge' their trust in Congress for invalid reasons. His die hard fans still don't understand on what grounds Chiru merged his party into Congress?If Chiru thought Sonia could deliver 'good governance' why did he start a party in first place?Did he not know Congress would give good governance when he started PRP two years ago? What social justice is Congress delivering now that it didn't three years ago? What good deed of this government encouraged him to join Congress? His decision to merge his party into Congress, in popular public perception is, heights of moral bankruptcy. His own brothers distanced themselves from this decision.Commentators claim that with this decision, Chiru lost an opportunity to become the Cultural ambassador of Telugu people, something N T Ramarao was a few years ago.The merge validated the criticism of Chiru as an 'opportunist' and 'political illiterate'.His party's symbol of the rising sun became synonymous to sun set. Chiranjeevi's charishma and stardom have taken a severe beating after this unpopular decision to join Congress.His moral stature went below all value denominators.His stardom didn't fetch votes for Congress in Kadapa byelections.His stand on Telangana prevents him from campaigning in that region.His absence from mainstream political activities like agitations, dharnas, active debates makes him irrelevant in state politics.It is then logical for us to believe that 2014 elections will see political retirement of Chiranjeevi.To make matters worse for him, voters in Tirupati are seething in anger against him.Despite being an MLA, he seldom visits his constituency,No one knows how to approach their representative.Neither him nor his office exists in their constituency.There are many things only an MLA could do.When people petition a district collector for amenities, general practice is they ask them to speak to their MLA for the issue to be raised at an appropriate level.Now how many Tirupatiites can travel frequently to Filmnagar for Lord MLA's darshan? On my visit to Tirupati this year, I spoke to a few locals.For instance this auto driver whom I spoke to on my way from Tiruchanur said, "Thappu Chesinamu.Inthavaraku kanapadledhu.Eesari ayanaki vote eesedi ledu"(It was a mistake.He didn't come to see us post elections.We won't vote for him this time).The writing on the wall in Tirupati is clear, 'We will 'change' our MLA in next elections.In yet another conversation with a die hard Chiru fan from Vizag, I was told, "I like Chiru as an actor.I will like him for his movies all my life.I voted for PRP in the last elections. But I was utterly disappointed when he merged the party into Congress.I felt cheated"Supporters of Chiru may argue that this public anger holds good for all politicians.That therefore places Chiru on the same pedestal as any other politician. Congress has nothing to lose.By killing Chiranjeevi's PRP it has lesser headaches to worry about in next elections.If it looses, Chiru will naturally exit politics.Chiranjeevi's greed and ignorance has become an arsenal to everyone who argues that actors live far from reality. In ex'change' to his support to Congress in recent no confidence motion, madam Sonia may gift him a Rajyasabha seat and a central ministry.But as Chiru swears in ' I, Konidella Chiranjeevi swear in the name of god that I will discharge my duties as a minister of cabinet......', I can hear an echo.It is the sound of waning stardom, grieving public trust and sobbing Mega fan!!
