Being in M&A and having dealt with PE and VC funds most of my life, a bit of unsoliticed advice (i have not been on those calls or have the full context though): a) View all such private investments as a part of a larger portfolio. Don't approach these as a sole investment, unless you are the promoter. Take the case of PE/ VC funds. 80% of their portfolio are dud investment, but they make money on the balance 20%. Unless you have a portfolio of 10 investments - each of a Rs1 lakh or Rs10 lakhs size, it might not make sense to take a solo punt like this b) The investor needs to do as much diligence as necessary. For instance, no reason for the company not to disclose commercial information. I do review all key commercial agreements before taking a call. Especially in a business that is still not earning revenues, these agreements are the foundation for the future revenues. c) Do reference checks on the promoters, if you do not know them personally. d) There was a KPMG study which came last week, that PE/ VC funds in India over the last 12 years (since 1999) have given lesser returns than even the stock market. e) I would advice entering the Indian markets slowly, with the rupee bound to appreciate again over a 2 year period, that coupled with the stock market returns are bound to give you a 15-20% annualised return over the medium term. |

Proline:contract with xyz, they should disclose it to the investors, otherwise what is the guarantee
most commercial contracts cannot be disclosed. if you do, they cancel it. by disclosing the supply chain, you can disclose the product and so on.. classic example is APPLE and their supply chain. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. |

Entikaburlu:all that due diligence is the investor responsibility. they will not give. since they are tier1, there wont be much in public either.
r u kidding. when they say that they have a contract with xyz, they should disclose it to the investors, otherwise what is the guarantee that they have the contract. I am not asking to disclose the intellectual property. where is the news that they had a deal with Philiphines govt, Tamil Nadu Govt, Karnataka Govt? |

all that due diligence is the investor responsibility. they will not give. since they are tier1, there wont be much in public either. if you have some one in chennai, you can ask them to visit them and also, if possible do some checking of the projects etc. all opinions expressed are mine and only mine. not to be attributed to the other IP address sharers, my employer, or any other human, animal, robot or alien. |

I am not judging about the plan or the people that presented. Having said that I have some genuine questions. I wanted to ask them in the call but was not sure if it was the right time or not. Biscuit: Take this questions to them (1) TCS already implemented GPS tracking of the Trucks (for oil companies) in india. Truck drivers started abusing the system already. So TCS released tamper proof versions of the equipment also last year. The similar things TCS is implementing for various countries. But during the call, they mentioned that they PROPOSED to Philiphines? Can they provide any evidence for it? (2) TATA is already implemented SmartMetering (energy, water, etc). When I asked about whether TATA is a competitor for you they mentioned that TATA will be a customer. I am not convinced about this. Can they provide any evidence/or detailed plan that the current market competitors(TATA, etc) will be their customers? |
