I had exact same doubt when a bunch of J Group announced their support to KKR. If parties issue WHIP, what happens to cross votes? Will they be disqualified before or after the voting? | ||

Doubts are being raised in political circles over the manner in which about half-a-dozen pro-Jagan Congress MLAs made public statement that they would support the Kiran Kumar Reddy government if the Telugu Desam Party moved a no-confidence motion in the Assembly. The Jagan loyalists' carefully-worded statement, made soon after their meeting with the Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar, raises more questions than it answers. Is there a larger game plan behind the move? Is the Jagan camp trying to mislead both the ruling Congress and TDP? One argument doing the rounds is that the YSR Congress Party has a well laid-out place to force mid-term elections in the state. According to this plan, the pro-Jagan MLAs will first drop hints that they would vote against the no-trust motion of the TDP. By this, the TDP could be dragged into a trap. Thinking that no-trust motion will be a good opportunity to "expose" the YSR Congress party, the TDP will move the motion in the House. In the meantime, Jagan can mobilize support from across the political spectrum and muster enough numbers to pull down the government. The catch here is that the real intention will be kept a closely guarded secret till the voting takes place. If the Jagan camp announces now that it will vote in favour of the no-confidence motion, then the ruling party can initiate swift action and disqualify them. This will only lead to by-elections but not the mid-term polls. "What we are looking for is mid-term polls and not by-elections to some constituencies," said a leader of YSR Congress Party. |
