Please, please do not hit your child as a way to make them do things ... and please try to understand their modes of learning and abilities before pushing them onto a path of failure ...remember it is more important to have a psychologically healthy kid than an engineer or doctor with dismal self esteem .

Tragedy is both of them live in a different state so help cheyyagaligindi alla just encourage them pour out their problems on phone/email and give some positive reinforcement...it is emotionally draining but not as tough as what they had/have to go thru ...and they need a vent...anduke faith in a higher power/God is important to have someone to vent to ...
The girl who went into BPD - she was diagnosed only after she went into severe depression after the child...the other friend diagnosed himself by reading up on depression/psychology

ADHD/ADD ki medications unnayi but side-effects untayi - only severe cases lo advised anukunta - my colleague has a son with severe ADHD - she cannot go to the airport or other public places if he's not medicated - cos he wanders off unless he's on a leash/harness  On medication he does great ..
But I believe for a lot of psychological problems pranayama techniques are very effective ... Art-of-living's sudarshana kriya for depression etc...ma friend ki prescribe chesaru ...

This issue is very personal to me cos I have 2 very dear friends who are adults now but are living in the hells unknowingly created for them by their own parents ...
One a significantly autistic child, brilliant and creative - but was badly beaten because he flunked math all the time...emotionally scarred - a wonderful brilliant person who has no self-esteem...
Another girl, pushed to interact, thru physical and psychological abuse, built a an external extroverted public persona while she retreated further into herself ... All hell broke lose when she had a child and post partum depression was added to the psychological payload...went manic depressve and suicidal Is maintaining herself now on medications...

Infact some of great people we know had ADHD when they were kids..eg. Bill Gates. It is more common amongst boys.
It can be traced even before they go to school because they normally miss milestones related to speaking. Because in kids that have ADHD/ADD -- if their attention span is so short that they can't concentrate even for the time that is required to hear what the opposite person says..and let the brain comprehend and repeat it.
ADHD/ADD even has medications and by the time these kids become young adults they learn how to cope with it and grown in normal adults.

My intention was not to oversimplify. Infact in my fist post on this itself I meant to say autism is different. Because I know it is not induced because of lack of interaction. Guilt consciousnes in parent will only complicate matter further. Because it's never their fault.
But in the specific example I was giving of A.D.H.D -- the child was incorrectly diognised just because he missed few developmental milestones. A few months stay in India put the child back in normal course and that reinforced his parents faith, that the child is perfectly normal.
It is definitely not my intention to say autism could be avoided by simply increasing interaction..

I know that Autism itself has got a whole spectrum ...and each kid fits into the spectrum somewhere...and depending on where they fall..they should be handled that way...I am not a expert in that area..kaani edo appatlo research chesi ...naa wife konni vishayalalo naaku gnanodayam chesindi..

I am sorry you had to live thru that nightmare ...I think we do not know what fear is till we have children...

But I would say having the awareness- of Autism, ADHD, ADD, and other mental/psychological problems is extremely important for all parents..understanding your child's abilities and limitations is critical so you do not try to force them into a generic hole that they are ill-built for...
Unfortunately , I have very close friends who grew up in ooint families in India and developed severe Bipolar disorder, Autism related problems etc...
So anta simplistic ga eliminate cheyyatam kashtam...interactn leka autism raadu , autism unte interact cheyaleru...
Oka mild autistic child ni meeru interaction ki force cheste they will retreat further into their imaginary worlds Anduke parents understand chesukovatam chala important....
