Preferential trade treatment is generally a strategic relationship symbolism!! It is not supposed to be seen in transactional terms..as the value of this generally will be negligible . The way trump is going about trade is not healthy. Trade deals are always tweaked. Issue is not with that.. it's with the fundamentals and the approach ..they are harmful.. So why did India even get on preferential side of US on trade? In mid 70's , late 80's US recognized India a strategic partner who is aligned more with Soviet bloc. This is one of the several initiatives taken by United States to court India into a relationship.. Looking at trade transactionally in the post modern world is dumb. The materiality doesn't matter but India need to address this appropriately. Tighten up the market and US will send another bouquet of roses. | ||
