Hmm interesting. I had this burning sensation when i ran 10 miles last week. I thought it is just the shirt. Didn't know it is common issue.

But band aid? No other easy solutions? :-)

diagnosed as IT band (Runners syndrome)

I had this issue when i was training for full marathon. took rest for couple of weeks and was able to finish half marathon instead of full.

So far, i have done 8 half marathons and 1 full (this was tough and boring for me, i did not train well)

as many fellow runners said and advised:

get the right shoe ( I use saucony shoe, visited fleet feet store to get the right shoe to my running style and foot)
train as much as possible
run your own pace
consistency in running is the key (try running at least 3 times a week)
on your big day, eat carbs night before, protein bars/banana/oatmeal for breakfast.
use comfortable clothing and use moisturizers to toes, underarms and in private parts to reduce the burning sensation. cover your man-nipples with band aid - they were bleeding for me in my first half marathon run as my shirt were rubbing them during running)
get hydrated with water every 3 miles

finally, put on music and enjoy your run :-)

on a side note,if seems that running is ineffective in reducing weight... also long distance running cause cortisol increase in blood and reduces testosterone.
running improves cardiovascular health.

Was practicing 4th, screwed up my knee, diagnosed as IT band (Runners syndrome)

Been 4 years since I ran
Gave 6 months breaks and tried running
Each time I run the first mile with no issues and then I end up getting sharp pain in the outer knee

I did 5 half and 1 full...1st half is always a memorable one..don’t aim for any PR..1st half marathon ante just complete cheyali ane thought tho urakandi..don’t wear any new gear on the race day...you will be looked as a rookie even if you wear the race T shirt..wear the one which you have been practicing on...once the race finishes you can wear the race t shirt for pics..

Regarding food for every race I have Quaker oats and one banana before the start..every 4 miles get hydrated...don’t try any new gels on the race day..

Regarding shoes Saucony is my favorite..I practice couple of long runs and use them on the race day...inka mi lanti rich fellows can go for a better shoes :D..but I always look for one with better cushion and less weight...

My 1st half I completed in 2:19 and the latest one i completed in 1:55...Full Marathon I did it in 4:49...next year I want to complete in less than 4 hrs...

Final ga good luck and don’t stop with one..just keep on running and complete as many as possible

one more thing.. the kind of shoe you need to use depends on your foot arch structure as it impacts your foot landing. Google for running gear stores in your city and check if they offer personalized shoe fitting services.. it is usually free. They make you run a treadmill at different paces and suggest which kind of shoes you need to buy.

D Day roju better to eat bar / juice or east decent breakfast ?
New shoes recommended? Mine are almost 1-2 years old but i only used them few times

D day roju asaly new shoes vaddu.. you need to break them in for a few days to feel comfortable. But OTOH, how much usage did those shoes see? It's not how long you had the shoes but how much did you use them. If you usually run on paved roads/concrete, the usual advice is to change shoes after 400 miles of usage.. Nenu ekkado chadiva idi, ippudu proof adagakandi. 600 miles above use chesi unte, definitely look for a newer ones and break them in before the big day.

1st one will be always memorable!
Wear to the weather. After 20min into race your body will get warm, so be prepared to take a layer off and tie to your waist if needed.
When hydrating during race, take small sips don’t fill up yourself. It will help in hidration and also will avoid toilet stops.
Oats breakfast and few sugary sweets in pocket with a bottle of water in hand will easily take you to finish line.
Don’t push yourself too much, Enjoy the race.

New shoes recommended?

Yes.
Serious runners ki best shoe fit is very important.
Go to shoe fit places. They will recommend shoes based on your pronation, body build and other factors. Worth it.

practice aside, a lot depends on our physiology whether we are able to run fast or long.
VO2 max can only be improved by only 20% how much ever practice you.

slow twitch and fast twitch fibre muscle composition may not 50-50% for majority.

Mrhyderabad:

Evarainaa chesaaraa ikkada? Any tips, suggestions appreciated

I did full in 2015. Flat course. Just dress as layers in case it is cold that day. Run according to your pace, dont get carried away because of others speed.

Mrhyderabad:

Last 2-3 weeks lo twice a week 5-6 miles running. Last week 9 and 10 mile runs completed for the first time.

then its easy peasy with all the euphoria.

Mrhyderabad:

D Day roju better to eat bar / juice or east decent breakfast ?

load up on carbs from day before. Eat your last meal atleast couple of hours before the race and make sure you empty your stomach beforehand.
Carry sports gels for quick energy.

Its been almost an ear I ran. and now I can hardly run 5-5 miles (did 5 full marathons previously)

Mrhyderabad:

New shoes recommended? Mine are almost 1-2 years old but i only used them few times

dont try new clothes\shoes first time on race day.

no breakfast but you can take a bar.. and shoes should be ok if they are of good brand or comfortable to you.

Mrhyderabad:

one of my friends did it many times in Hyd. per him, eat good amount of carbs before night and sleep well, do not compete with others and rush... should find and stick our own pace and rhythm.
given that you ran 10 miles.. you will be able to do it easily.

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein
