What was Hanuman, Brahman, or Dalit? Neither. He was a Sudra. In those days (even until 1000 years ago), only Sudras addressed themselves as ‘das’ of xyz. Vaisyas would refer to themselves as either ‘Shresti’ or ‘Gupta’ (occupational). Kshatriyas would refer to themselves as ‘raja’ or ‘verma’. Hanuman constantly referred to himself as das of Sri Rama in Valmiki Ramayana. When Sri Rama approaches him with his hands on one occassion, he also backs away sort of refusing to be touched by Sri Rama as Sri Rama was of a higher caste than him (in those days Sudras hesitated so due to varna respects). There are other examples in Valmiki Ramayana. What? so we have been worshipping a sudra all along? His achievements defined him and they are the reason why all 4 castes held him to a godly status since then, not his caste. We, Brahmin purohits and all, even worship him even today, because of what he did, not because of his caste. Oh no, but pandits/purohits are supposed to be casteist and casteism perpetrators, how could they be worshiping Hanuman? Poor pandits/purohits, all of who they worship are born in other caste households, Kshatriya (Sri Rama) or Sudra (Hanuman, Matangi, Sri Krishna, Balaji) or Dalit i.e. not fit into any caste (Shiva). Heck, even the three main scriptures/Puranas they hold most sacred and read and preach to masses, Mahabharata, Bhagavatam and Ramayana, are written by an ST (Vyasa) and an OBC (Valmiki) in today’s caste hierarchy. But let’s blame pandits/purohits for “writing history of winners only in our puranas†& other such nonsensical fabrications about “evil brahmins†and their imagined “caste-ismâ€, because it feels good to blame someone else when we are lazy & don’t bother to know the He is not a human being to be either. He's God (Chiranjeevi or immortal). Yes, he was called “Vanara Shrestaâ€(the best among the monkeys). So he's not a manava avatar(human incarnation). He's not a Brahmin,Vysya, Kshatriya or Sudra, but he's a Bhagavatottama. He was born to a king, trained by Deva (sun/Surya), performed tapasya to know Rama and finally was Ramadasa (literally, slave/servant to Rama). Yogi may be right.. but scriptures call Hanuman a vanara - a non human race with features closer to monkeys. When Rama kills Vaali from behind the tree, the most strongest argument in support of Rama, is that Vaali is a vanara, and human laws are not applicable to his race. Anyway - Hanuman is a yogi himself, proficient in all vedas and shivites believe him to be an avatar of Shiva/Rudra. jains believe he is a jain yogi, after following the pious Jain Rama - Hindus believe he is celibate, while Jains believe that he was not until he met Rama. everyone has their own interpretations on what or who he is. nothing wrong for Yogi to say what he thinks Hanuman is, or for the other group to be upset if its against their beliefs. | ||
