Main benefit of going with a CDHP plan is you get to save in a HSA account. HSA can be treated as a retirement savings account with double tax benefit. Your pre-tax money goes in and your earnings are tax free as long as you use them for medical expenses. The trick is to save all your medical bills and pay with money from your pocket and not use the HSA funds. If in the event you need to withdraw HSA funds you can submit the bills any year and withdraw funds. For citizens or for those who are hellbent on staying in US this is a very good option to save for medical expenses in your retirement. Please read these two articles for pros and cons -

Bobby:

Then HSA account will have $6000 , which covers the deductible ?

I am sure. we are paying all our dental/medical/vision expenses from HSA card even though we have separate dental and vision plans. But Some of these eligible HSA expenses may not apply to your health insurance deductible

Hemu - HSA is basically medical 401K anukoo
Employer contributes from $500 to 1500. We can do max upto 5K. basically pretax dollars. Ideally you can contribute minimum of premium change plus copya with other plan.

This money can be used anytime. Will be urs.

If you decide to go with HSA consider putting max amount (or whatever the amount your want to contribute) in the first few months so you dont have to deal with claims and stuff if there are any doctor visits in the beginning of the year. 2 years ago when I switched my health plan from regular PPO to HDHP+HSA I did the same.

I do the same. But FYI, you should subtract employer contribution of 1200 from 7K limit. You can only contribute 5800 into HSA account.

Full time employees ki 40-120 rates per paycheck untayi.

Yep I am FT. My HDHP(high deductible health plan) PPO premium is 37$. Employer gives 1200$ towards HSA account. Rest of the 5800$ divided into 26paychecks(7K is the limit for 2019) which is 233/pay check

I paid all payments (co-pays,emergency room /dental /pharmacy )from HSA account last year.

for HSA is usually less than 40$ per pay check. Meeru cheppe 574$ lo 500+

Are you sure on this ?
If you don’t contribute additional amount ,just pay monthly payments $574 per month

Then HSA account will have $6000 , which covers the deductible ?

HSA is clear winner.

BTW HSA is kuda PPO plan ye. It is a High deductible health plan which allows you to put tax free dollars into health saving account (state taxes apply)

Actual premium for HSA is usually less than 40$ per pay check. Meeru cheppe 574$ lo 500+ is going to your HSA account. you can make payments for CO-pays/Pharmacy bills/all other eligible health care expenses from this HSA account. In case of regular PPO account , you loose all the amount end of the year plus co-pays etc post tax dollars pay cheyyali... Also If you have any money left in your HSA at the end of the year, it will continue to roll over year after year.

Last year we had lot of hospital visits, I am glad I chose HSA. BTW you can pay ortho payments/dental treatments etc with your HSA card. You dont need to have dental insurance. Eligible expense ayithe chalu

HSA to PPO 2148 in premiums difference undi kada...
If you/family do not use health insurance much or just a couple of vitis in a year, HSA is the way.
If you have an emergency visit, and it costs 2K, you will end up paying the deductible in HSA a plan and still be better off with HSA plan.
If someone has to visit the doctors ans specialists, then, I would say PPO is better option. But that also has a deductible. You have to look at what is co-pay and other factors... In general, HSA plans are better these days. That is what the employers want you to pick too.

HSA, Deductible is 2600, Untill your medical expenses reach 2600, insurance vadu emi pay cheyyadu, after 2600 , you pay coninsurance(10%,15% depending on plan) untill toltal reaches to 5200, tarvatha 100% insurance pays

PPO lo you pay copay's and co-insurance untill 1500.

Alochinchu:

Win-Win Situation..

Put the premium difference in HSA Account.. even if you use all to deductible you are not losing more than PPO.. if you do not use it much that money will be saved into your HSA account..

Always put in HSA account.. maximize if possible.. it is more like 401K for health..

depends on how many visits you make to a Doctor in a year. Less no of visits, HSA is better since you have to pay 100% of the charges until you reach your deductible. I switched to HSA last year.
