Again, clarifying my stand. And re-iterating some of the points i already stated below. Should women be allowed in Sabarimala ? Probably yes. Involve the courts.If someone is obstructing, again, let the courts handle. All i say is, SC should not be hasty. Please spare us your hollow sermonising too - do you have any comments on the historical background as is given in detail in the legal link below instead of quoting flimsy stuff as tradition. And what you mentioned that traditions are different in Konkan/ Kerala - they might be, but not the specific instances that you mentioned. They are pretty common in many major temples (going without shirt, only dhoti etc). What might be a tradition in Konkan, that you did not mention is Dalits being made to roll on banana leaves with leftovers of Brahmins. If you don't want to read the legal link and believe that this has been a tradition for "thousands" of years, when it has not been the case, should we continue that tradition, same goes for Muslims too? | ||

For the record, Kerela Brahminical traditions are way different to the other brahminical sects in the country. These priests are called Thantris ( unlike other temples ) and they wear black ( unlike other temples as well ). There have been allegations against the Dewaswom board in the past, and all of the info is there for public consumption as well. This difference in the Konkan belt, Kerela traditions was brought out by Sankara himself. for example, Konkan temples lo all males are asked to enter the premises ONLY with their trousers off. if you have objections, research the topic well -> goto the court -> then handle the protestors. Until then, spare us your verbal diarrhea. | ||

Please go through the details and background in the original case filed in 1991 - Mahendran vs State of Travancore. https://indiankanoon.org/doc/1915943/ There was no explicit restriction on women entering the temple even until the 50s when the Travancore Devaswom Board passed rules prohibiting them. So this is not a living deity having his own rights, that is such balderdash. The tantris just use their own authority to rub off their whims and fancies on deity. If the deity had his rights, over the past hundreds of years weren't they practiced or written down. These were the same rules that were used by the priests to prevent backwards from entering temples over the centuries. In the early part of the 20th century, the Shabari temple was similarly shut by the Tantri for a month as dalits were allowed to enter. Same arguments were given then. I know, understand the reasons for not allowing women into Sabarimala, Sani Singanapuram - and i do support it. The SC court, should interpret the constitution - but for judging on religious&sensitive topics like this, they sh(c)ould ALSO have gone into understanding the WHY part of the women-ban. Simply pronouncing generic judgement is going to trigger large backlashm like we are seeing today. in terms of muslims injustice - Triple talaq - i would definitely support abolishing this, since the arguements against this was more on women-empowerment. Allowing into Haji Ali - i would keep this to the religion to decide who to allow and who not to. And i would not equate Sabarimala to Haji Ali, cos Sabarimala is THE ayappa temple. Its like Tirupati, Srirangam, Varanasi - the prominence is high. Its like appealing against the traditions of Mecca.. not easy to pronounce hasty decisions.. | ||
