Also, I am not confident that Google and Amazon would keep supporting this platform. Google is consciously moving away from Android. Amazon can't stand the site of Google. Frankly, I am worried that Android TV would face the ax soon and join its colleagues (Inbox, Google+ etc) in Google Graveyard. Even if it is updated to "Google TV" - I am sure my age-old Sony TV (2015 model) is not going to get that update. On the other hand, I have full faith in Apple to keep updating the TV platform and I couldn't be happier about the quality of Apple products. My Ipad Air 2 with iOS 12 is still snappy and more responsive than my Pixel XL 2 running Android Pie. I do get your point that you can't do much outside the defined ecosystem of Apple. But I don't do that stuff anyway. As far as consuming content is concerned (TV, Ipad, Phone), I am a regular user. Only on my computer, I can be called a power user. I have Apple TV, Chromecast and FireTV. I used to use Apple TV a lot for mirroring and airplay videos from my phone, iPad. After I bought FireTV recently, i am using FireTV a lot. This is much better and faster than Apple TV and Chromecast. Since this is andriod player, you can download any app with out restrictions. | ||

Automatic updates enable chesi untaru. Naa Sony TV kuda automatically updated to next android version overnight and issues started. Called Sony CC and they said, the update came from Google and not from them. I made sure that my TV doesn't automatically update to next available version. I can use my Android TV apps for Kodi and casting Most of the time is spent on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, Youtube, BBC iPlayer and Hotstar. I am sure we wouldn't have this slow down problem on Apple TV. (Every time I change the volume, Prime Video stutters, stops, breaks etc). It is really pathetic right now. Naa TV lo kuda same issue. I think Amazon/Google is to be blamed here. Apple lo Kodi undadhu, apps ni sideload cheskovadam undadhu. Casting undadhu, airplay undhi but you have to be in Apple ecosystem. Manchi Android Box set cheskondi. I have a fire stick to play Amazon video. I am looking for a solution for my aging Android TV. Apps are hanging or very slow on my TV. (Especially, Amazon Prime Video is pathetic) Hence looking for a streaming box to use.
