Don't worry about spending a 1000 to fix it. If you use insurance they will eventually get all that money back. Not calling cops is also a good idea in this case because you would have gotten a citation for failing to stop. Fine would be around 200. And points on the history. as long as he is asking within your payable range go for it, the moment you cannot handle the amount, ask him to claim for insurance.. This estimate you get with repair/collision shop, Based on that you can settle. Normally they wont go to insurance, as they have their deductible too. Since there is no cop involved, finding who is at fault is now out of his hands. But accident can any day reported. Do based on the amount you have to pay. Insurance involve cheste since it is your fault, they will bump your insurance, unless they ignore first time fault. I had hit (rear-ended) a car near traffic signal in Plano TX. The fault is mine and i have accepted it. The other person (Indian in 60's) just took a photo of my insurance. I told him i will get it fixed outside the insurance. He said, he will come to any shop which i decide and get it fixed. His bumper lost some paint due to this incident.. We both did not call cops and he went away .. How should i handle this situation .. First time had involved in an accident and not sure what to do ?
