Crimson Red Sky Chekka Chivantha Vaanam translates to Crimson Red Sky. This latest offering from Mani Ratnam is just as beautiful as a crimson red sky. When you stare at such a sky, you either appreciate the beauty or think about bloodshed. How you react to these elements of Nature depends purely on your state of mind when you embark on this soul-searching journey. The experience of watching this movie is a similar one. Yes, it depends on what you like to see in a movie. It depends on how many Netflix movies and series' you have seen before stepping into the cinema. It depends on what you had for lunch for crying out loud. But, whatever be your state of mind; let me tell you something. You are going to find this journey interesting. You may have your gripes about the pace of the movie or the wayward second half but after you are done with the excellently choreographed climax, you come out of the auditorium completely convinced - and the third rate CGI at work in the last sequence is not even there in your peripheral vision. Crimson Red Sky - keeps you guessing. You've been watching movies since you were a baby. You take pride that you can unravel all mysteries in first two minutes of any movie. You approach any movie as an entrance examination - You must solve the question - fast and first. Mani Ratnam lets you have a field day with predictions about what is going to happen or rather whodunnit. And then effortlessly make you feel like a complete idiot. Are there twists there that you can guess? Yes. Are those twists in the movie or in your head? Who knows! The story is wafer-thin. A head of the family and his three sons - locked in a custody battle. Who is going to call the shots after the leader falls? To what lengths are you prepared to go to get those reins? For justice? For a change, a pretty straightforward narration and a conclusive end make this movie a delight to watch. You don't see the actors, only the characters. The moment a character's purpose is fulfilled, it is bye-bye time. There's no fluff; no unnecessary songs; no extra-long fight sequences. Mani Ratnam is back, baby.
