Whether you can apply for renunciation + OCI at the same time, depends on the specific consulate and your place of jurisdiction. Some consulates specifically ask to do them one after the other. | ||

You cannot apply both on the same day. first get the surrender certificate.. takes normally 1 week. Then submit OCI application.. take 4-6 weeks (UK) antunnaru kabatti | ||

The main headache is with the Indian govt website application that needs to be filled after you complete the first part on CKGS website. On the Indian govt website, the size of your pic or any PDF you upload like the US passport copy cannot be more than 200MB I think. 1) You would need software to compress scanned PDF documents WITHOUT losing clarity. I used https://pdfexpert.com/how-to-compress-pdf 2) For reducing the size of scanned passport photos while maintaining the 2x2in aspect ratio, I used preview in mac, I'm sure paint or windows photo viewer can do the same. Also, one thing to make sure is that the OCI applicant's name, his/her spouse's name and parents name on the cancelled Indian passport should EXACTLY match the details on OCI application including even middle names.
