Blue_jeans_buddha:

Problem with optical out is - you cannot control your soundbar sound with your TV remote. If the soundbar has HDMI, you can pair it to the Audio Return Channel (ARC) of your TV and have the volume control managed through TV remote.

Just my 2 cents because you are going to spend thousands of dollars on this

this is not true

I have optical running from TV to sonos soundbar...i control TV volume or rather the volme oof speakers which are in the same 'group' as soundbar and itself using TV Remote.

But i read in some reviews that songs are getting skipped on Sonos. Did you face that issue? Also sonos bar has only optical input vs hdmi, dated tech..no?

Songs skipping - have not checked of late, as i am largely streaming radio stations from TuneIn Radio.

Regarding the Optical input - i don't think that is a concern. In fact i like the minimalism of the optical cable. As long as you pick a TV that has optical slot, you are good to go. I bought mine without checking but luckily on coming back to India, found that my TV was compatible. Lucky me :-)

Guruvan.... naa 20 marks answer for fill in the blanks -

Both are terribly overpriced.... terribly ante terribly .... 1400 plus taxes is such a waste of money for sound bars... Rich people waste money on Bose and Sonos because of WAP (wife acceptance factor)... j/k..

Sonos is better than bose antaaru for music but reverse kuda vinnanu...

Bottom line - Go to a local store and play exact same song in both and decide for your self... everybody has a different taste for sound..... just because i like sonos doesnt mean you will also like it and vice versa.... try them out and decide... dont buy based on what people say....

If u have friend or family workin in Bose or if you know abt body working in Army 50% off... kummeyyi...

Humpty_dumpty:

my set up
family room sonos sound bar, sub, two play 1s

I have the same setup in family room. If budget is not a constraint and enjoy lot of music, Sonos is a good option for wireless configuration. There is a third party app called SonosTube that can stream youtube songs to Sonos speakers, if you dont want to go with music subscription services.

nat possible
sonos is platform
you need streaming service like pandora, spotify, apple music, raaga, iheartradio, tunein etc or play from local n/w device
naaki never skipped song in 4+ years
unless service is bad like sometimes raaga

optical vs hdmi...yes, its dated...check if they are coming out with that in next version of the device
family room kee i did not notice anything that I am missing (may be poor knowledge on my part as a consumer)

my set up
family room sonos sound bar, sub, two play 1s

also have three play 1s , set up in different rooms

I have Vizio 5.1 with wireless sub. Surround speakers wireless sub nunchi connect avuthai. I am happy with it. Only issue entante if you dont have proper audio from TV/somemedia sorround speakers kich kich sound vasthundhi. Not noticeable unless you hear it very very close from surround speaker.

Thx for suggesting Mav but there seems to be a big diff in performance. Vizion/samsung/etc vs Sonos and Bose. I dont have a dedicated media room at this point, so want to get a good sound system to use for next coule of years.

I am trying to build it one go and get it installed.

I have a Sonos Playbase. I also have two Sonos Play 1s that i have bought earlier. I have not paired the latter with the former. I use the latter for music and put them around the house and the former for movies. I can combine them all together if they are in the same room. The only think i have to add in a subwoofer. I paid 700 for the playbase and 400 for the speakers. The best thing about Sonos, is that you can keep adding speakers and woofers one by one, later on too.

I have compared the Playbase with other playbars before buying. Sonos is costlier than others, barring Bose, but the quality can beat the others out of the park. Furthermore, you can play music wirelessly through Sonos Playbase which other Soundbars can't.

If budget is not a big issue and house size is an issue, then Sonos is the way to go.

I understand that having dedicated speakers is better than sound bar that simulates surround. Due to mounting and installation limitations i have to go with a soundbar. Thinking about getting a wireless sub and 2 surround speakers to go along with. Both Sonos and Bose seems to be good in that price range. Just wondering if anyone here has done the comparison and picked one vs the other.
