Italy is a good mix....If its one country....you have to pick..... Venice and daggarlo two islands Murrano and Burrano.....rome and vatican....and Pisa....all of the can be done by travelling in trains..... florence... aged people ki ee mix nacchocchu....... one things for sure....Italy lo sun vayisthundhi......ee time lo august lo peaks....we slept in the afternoon and hit roads again in the evenings.... apart from usual know attractions....Italy in general good for offbeat tracks too...... If you stick to one country - Italy is a great mix of history, art, and breathtaking scenery we covered a lot but the favs were Venice and Sorrento ( Capri, Amalfi ) Here’s my notes from our trip to Italy & Greece ... Warning : long write up - half of it dedicated to food Day 1 : Landed in Venice in the morning Had limited time in Venice so used the commute to get the Grand Canal tour enroute to hotel.. Took the airport bus to Venice ..walked over to the railway station ferry point and took the slow route 1 as per directions on Rick Steves app.. plugged in headphones and listened to the Rick Steves audio guide to Grand Canal as we we cruised to our hotel in Arsenale - it was a great intro to Venice.. Day 1 Food highlights - seafood risotto , cuttlefish on squid-ink pasta, tiramisu in Italy , gelato to cool off.. Btw Fanta Orange in Italy was a reminder of how grossly sweet and color concentrated the USA version is ... Headed off to St.Mark’s Basilica - tips here - if you go to the cloakroom/bag drop off and get a baggage ticket - you get to skip the line and enter the basilica directly ... Got the combo ticket at Correr to avoid the long lines at Doges) ...visited Correr and the archaeological museum Did the Gondola ride ... Food highlights - seafood risotto , cuttlefish on squid-ink pasta, tiramisu , gelato to cool off.. Btw Fanta Orange in Italy was a reminder of how grossly sweet and color concentrated the USA version of drink is ... Day 2 : in the morning did Doge’s palace ( the audio guide provided there was worth the cost) Then walked over to Rialto , popped into a church on the way and had lunch at a restaurant under the Rialto bridge. Walked back to Arsenale - spent the evening walking over to Arsenale area and then to St.Marks square to enjoy the evening ambience there Day 2 food highlights : Great seafood , gnocchi, rich pastas ,heavenly pannacotta, cannoli Day 3 : took the early train to Florence.. reached Florence by 10. Dropped off luggage... walked to Santa Croce basilica ( Michel Angelo’s tomb is there ) then headed to lunch at Mercato Centrale food court.. Awesome truffle pasta , pizzas and chocolate mousse, pannacota and vanilla Had prebooked entry times to Duomo and Accademia - these fill out quick so book ahead That afternoon visited the Battistero and Duomo - climbed the Duomo to the top of Florence - all 486 steep steps to the cupola... great close up views of the art inside the dome and outside of the city.. Duomo is amazing - the multicolor marble work on the exterior , and the innovative design and construction of the huge dome itself Eats : Edoardo’s gelato near the duomo was excellent .. mango ginger flavor was our fav Had a quick dinner before heading to Accademia Gallery for our 7.30 pm entry - to see Michel Angelo’s David and other sculptures and art Day 4: Took the early Regionale train to Pisa (1 hour) to be there for our 9.45 Tower entry( again prebook as they fill out quick) took the bus to the the tower .. took some pictures and then climbed up the tower ...was worth the trouble - just the disorienting feel of climbing the inclined tower Then went to the battistero - waited for the acoustic demonstration, saw the cathedral Tuscan Food highlights in Pisa - truffle oil porcini sandwich, papardelle with boar sauce , boar stew with potatoes Took the train back to Florence and reached at 2.30 pm .. then went to Michel Angelo square to get great views of Florence from across the river Took the evening train from Florence to Rome..1.5 hours Day 5: Coliseum ( site audio guide was very helpful and having online tickets let us skip the mile long line) Roman Forum , PalAtine hill in the morning .amazing experience walking thru those sites ..drove over to Trevi fountain for a late lunch and then walked from there to Pantheon ( amazing structure - and has Raphael’s tomb) , Piazza Navona and to Spanish steps.. Rick Steves heart of Rome audio was useful Food highlights : eggplant- cod parmigiana, porcini mushroom pizza Day 6: Vatican - absolute must see - booked a guided tour and it was great to have a human guide explain the history and nuances of the artwork .. but it was an exhausting 4 hour tour Food highlights in Vatican City - more seafood pasta and risotto ... the best tiramisu we have had so far and a fabulous white chocolate mascarpone cake Went to Campa di Fiore - took the bus to Piazzale Venice, then went to Santa Maggiore cathedral - interesting tour of the 1 AD excavation below the cathedral Day 7 - took the train to Naples .booked a taxi for 8 hours to pick us up at the station and drive to Sorrento via the Historic sites Ercolano - an excavation site ..used the audio guide there for a 1.5 hour tour Mt.Vesuvius- trekked up to the caldera and back...1.5 hours Pompeii - quick lunch and then hired a guide for a 2 hour tour - guide is a must - Pompeii is huge and hard to understand what to cover Drop off at Sorrento : watched the sunset and had the best pizza at Franco’s. Tomatoes , oranges and lemons in this area are delicious. Day 8 : Amalfi coast tour Positano, Amalfi , Ravello beautiful coastline and towns Food highlights - Lemon tiramisu and hazelnut semifreddo in Positano , Amalfi specialties - fried seafood cones and ricotta pear cake , pastries in Ravello. Day 9: Capri with sharedtours ( mondoguide) We’re lucky enough to enter Blue grotto - they were closing entry as we left the grotto .. it’s subject to tide and waves ...it’s quite a surreal experience Tour around the island - faraglioni rocks, green and white grottoes , kids got to swim with the fishes in the amazing clear water, went up to Anacapri, Mt. Solaris chairlift and then to Capri Food highlights : Lunch in Capri - the best caprese sandwiches and torta caprese (almond chocolate cake ) Dinner in Sorrento : Fried Zucchini flower ( actual flower stuffed with ricotta and fried ), baked sea bream fish , seafood skewer with swordfish, octopus, squid and shrimp, raspberry white cream cake Day 10 : Sorrento , marina grande - afternoon took the train to Naples and then flight to Santorini Food highlights : lunch at Delfino -view, service, food and presentation were top notch- will post pics sometime - sea urchin spaghetti, lobster pasta and sea bass, bruschetta - tiramisu to close Day 11: Santorini - walked thru Fira in the morning Took cable car down to old port and took the sunset cruise - included hiking the volcano , Swimming in hot springs , dinner at Thirasia and sunset in Oia... Unique experience- fish spa - pedicure by tiny fish - pretty good ... Food highlights : lamb kebabs, pork chop and chicken souvlaki , lamb moussaka, baklava Day 12: Spent the morning in Oia , visited firostefani and then took the afternoon ferry to Athens ..8 hours but it’s a large cruise ship like experience - quite relAxing - caught the only World Cup match on the ferry to see Argentina lose badly  Day 13 : Athens - Got the hop on hop off bus tickets - went to Temple of Zeus bought combo ticket, and then to Acropolis - got a guide onsite - she was very informative ..did the Acropolis hill and then walked down to Roman forum ... lunch and then to Acropolis museum ( absolute must do place) Food highlights : great fall off the bone lamb, pork gyros, kebabs Loved the breakfasts in Greece - fresh veggies, olives , Greek yogurt and its addons, spinach and feta spanakopita Day 14 : Hadrian’s library , Ancient Agora and the museum ( fascinating artifacts from 3000 BC onwards and relics of the oldest democracy) panthenaic stadium -of the first modern olympics , Aristotle’s lyceum, National library Great ancient stuff for people interested in history .,,walking thru the very urban city you find excavations marked out .. Food - great street food - gyros, souvlaki , the pastries/tarts at the street corner bakery- can you tell we have a sweet tooth Day 15 : head back General positives : great flavor in veggies and fruits , great coffee, less additives and sugar in drinks General negative - the pervasive cigarette smoke in all public areas.. smoking seems to be the norm Tips : Travel light - we travelled with only a carry on each. Plan and book sights like Pisa, Vatican , Duomo , Accademia etc. early to get the time slots you want. Wear walking shoes. Mondo guides sharedtours were good for Amalfi and Capri if you are constrained on time. I booked the Naples- Ercolano- Vesuvius-Pompeii - sorrento taxi trip with mondo guide too - worked out well given we only had a day to do all these. Otherwise the Circumvesuviana commuter trains are really cheap and convenient to these spots from Naples or Sorrento. Love this place... Drive to geneva is just mind blowing .. infact that whole border.. also Austrian border is too good. It was bit hot last few weeks in europe.. so you might find it hard as most of the places are not equipped to handle high temp (Meaning no AC) .. disney is for kids .. not sure who did you go with .. Yes cannot compare to orlando ones but not that bad better than most of our UK theme parks and my kids loved them | ||

I went through SOTC..around 4 lakhs ayyindi for couple.. maku oka coach book chesi thippadu all places..for entire week.. ample time was allocated for each spot.. hotels were good enough..Paris lo Novotel, Chamonix lo Rocky Pop, Switzerland lo Sissever and Dorint hotels icharu..ikkada kuda naku Paris lo unna Novotoel nachi chaava ledu.. Yeah..Chamonix to Geneva drive arachakam.. For me Jungfrau > Titlis > Mont Blanc Mont Blanc lo pedha interesting spots emi levu mari..aa glass cabin lo photo shoot ithe pakka PR anipinchindi..wasted lot of time for this.. @Platy annai..consider going to Chamonix and stay at Rocky Pop than wasting on Paris..this is the ideal time to visit this place.. Hype ki match avvaledu Paris..Eiffel tower thappa not many interesting spots.. Kids might like Disneyland but it is too crowded with huge lines for every ride.. average waiting time was 1hr for any decent ride (my be because of summer holidays).. much hyped Disney parade was ordinary.. There was one more gem called "Chamonix" near the France-Swiss border..it is a small town but you'll be blown away when you visit this place.. Rocky Pop hotel is a must visit, if you go to Chamonix.. -- this is one of my all time favourite..... chamonix and Mont blanc......are way better than Jungfraou for me..... chamonix nunchi ....Geneva drive aithey......superb annatu......Swiss.....ni.....that side of france beats it.... Paris is the worst of all major european cities i visited....but unfortunatley i visitied it many times.... We are what we repeatedly do. Back from Zurich 2 days ago..Total 8 days trip Countries covered - just 2 (France and Switzerland) Places covered - Paris, Chamonix, Interlaken, Luzern, Geneva, Zurich Mountains climbed - Mont Blanc, Jungfrau (pronounced as Yungfro) and Mount Titls.. Except while on these mountains, remaining time lo yenda vaayinchindi..reminded us of Indian Summer.. Switzerland is the place to visit..those greenery, landscapes, weather..once in a life time experience.. Paris sodi..except architecture and history..emi ledu.. There was one more gem called "Chamonix" near the France-Swiss border..it is a small town but you'll be blown away when you visit this place.. Rocky Pop hotel is a must visit, if you go to Chamonix..
