Musically there may be more better singers as quoted "Shankar Mahadevan, Hariharan" - but in terms of sheer versatility, expressions, modulation, improvising (suiting to the hero and the situation) - there is no one second - in fact even to the 10th position to SP Balu. No one in his contemporaries came any where close to him. People like V Ramakrishna (With all due regards to him), weren't any close to SPB in terms of quickly learning and reproducing what was required by the music director and director. SP Balu laanti singers ika undaru - he is one in a millennium. In the current generation - Sri Krishna is the one who sings melodiously and with expression, but doesn't have a bass voice. shankar and hariharan are miles ahead of SPB in terms of overall music/singing talent but voice wise no one comes close to SPB. vere valla songs ade pani gaa vinte bore kodutundi. Balu voice entha vinna bore kottadu and he can modulate his voice like no other. | ||

let me tell you one thing, you can ignore it if you don't like it olden days lo male singers ki songs anni lower scale lo vundevi lo, adapadapa thappa eppudu higher scales lo songs vundevi kavu appudu male singer antey manchi gambhiryam vunna vadu ayyivundali, plus melody used to play big part, female singers ki high scale lo vundevi songs ippudu - after Rahman, most of the music directors only compose higher scale songs for male singers, females are singing in lower scale to fit into the crowd most of them are practicing and concentrating to improve their higher scales and not on lower scales Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, Vijay Prakash can sing lower scales with ease at present until unless songs come back to major scales you wont be able to hear base voices in male singers Kalyan Malik is one music director who scores music mostly in Major scales these days | ||
