Yes. You have to renew. But you can travel without renewing as long as you carry old and new passports. | ||

like many even i postponed my applications multiple times over the past couple years as i used to get bogged down looking at the documentation needed and the whole process.. but when i finally decided to go for it it went much better than what i expected.. they've definitely simplified the process.. i got an OCI in lieu of PIO in a week and another new OCI in 6 weeks.. one question i have though is do we need to renew our OCI when the current passport expires? i think NO as it's a separate booklet with "Lifelong" validity printed.. and there's no stamp/sticker attached within the passport.. | ||

Proof of Indian Origin (for Govt.) ⢠Copy of first three and last two pagesof the last Indian Passport held. In case of non-availability of Indian passport the decision to accept the mentioned documents as proof of Indian Citizenship will be made by the Embassy/Consular Officer and will be FINAL in such cases. (if Indian Passport is not available, any One of the below documents) ⢠Birth CertificateOR ⢠Certificate of Indian origin from First Class Magistrate / District MagistrateOR ⢠Ancestral Nativity Certificate from Indian Official / MagistrateOR ⢠Educational certificate issued by an institution of India AND Land ownership certificate. If the applicant does NOT HAVE an Indian Passport and is applying for OCI on the basis that his parentsâ and/or grandparentsâ were Indian Nationals, then the applicant must enclose the following documents:- o Copy of Proof of both parentsâ and grandparents' current nationality and previous nationality. o Applicantâs Birth Certificate (in which their parentsâ name is mentioned). o If the applicant is applying as a grandchild of an Indian National, then the applicant must submit his/her birth certificate as well as his/her parentsâ birth certificate.All submitted birth certificates must show the parentsâ names clearly so that it establishes the relationship with the applicants parentsâ and grandparentsâ, AND (any One of the below documents) o Copies of first three and last two pages of BOTH parentsâ/grandparentsâ Indian passport, OR o Copy of BOTH parentsâ/grandparentsâ domicile certificate issued by the competent authority, OR o Copy of BOTH parentsâ OCI cards/ grandparentsâ OCI cards including information pages on OCI cards.
