Just to let you all know that my colleague's wife has passed away today morning at 10:30 am. She was 34 years old and fought lung cancer for last 1 year. Thanks to TANA members of North Carolina. They have plunged into action immediately and are helping my colleague to take her body to India. Last year March both husband and wife were driving to office and she complained of severe headache. Since she already had migraine, he gave her some medicine and they reached office at 9:30 am. While climbing the stairs fro the car park to the building, she felt nausea and did sat on the stairs complaining breathing problem. He immediately took her to their primary care physician who in turn referred to a specialist in Duke Medical Center. It was diagnosed as a rare tumor in lungs which happens one in 50 million cases. No symptoms shown and when they really identified, it was in advanced stage. Tried oral chemo and then traditional chemo...10 days back they confirmed that she cannot live more than few days. Hospice nurse visited daily for last 10 days and today she saw the world for one last time....her body shrunk and was waiting to go to the heavenly abode. My deepest condolences for my friend and colleague. May her soul rest in peace  | ||

Sorry to hear about your friends tragedy. If family can come here then cremation here is advised. In my will I asked myself to be cremated at the earliest in the nearest location. | ||

Very sorry to hear about your colleague is going thru. It might be her last wish to be in India,but whatever is the reason, all it is about whether we can support his/her wish or not. Tweet to Sushma Swaraj will for sure work. She is very responsive. Probably talking to local senator or governor might work too. Can you pls check and call back..Thanks ! @ All, For the greed of power, money, fame humans by and large show discrimination against race, religion, region, caste, language etc. But there are still a handful set of people in every society who come forward to help each other unconditionally. It is because of these people our faith in HUMANITY gets restored. I have heard about such extreme cases thru different sources like news, chat sessions and discussions...but for the very first time I experienced such horrific and helpless state of affairs to someone whom I know at a very close quarter. Spoke to my colleague today morning and this is what he is trying to do now : 1. He spoke to Suresh Kakarla TANA member from Cary, NC. They are already working with the officials to see what best can be done in next 48-72 hours. Suresh garu will be visiting their home today evening. 2. Neighbors are taking turns to be with him, couple of them are trying to reach out to the Duke Medical Center thru their contacts / network and see if anything can be done. 3. A Tamil family is bringing food twice in a day for him as he & his in-laws are just freeezed with her health deteriorating. 4. He has tweeted to Sushma Swaraj today morning for help. She has not woke up for last 2 days, but ate something today morning...she is having breathing problems and is in semi-conscious state. I guess she would like to see her kith & kin for one last time and spend her last days in the home she was born and brought up...It could be less practical and more emotional aspect. Like someone mentioned, I will try to counsel my colleague and try to tell him to give up his idea of traveling to India at this stage. It is not safe to make her fly at this condition (Commercial airlines have a policy to land at the nearest airport if any such mishap happens mid-air, so they generally do not allow terminally ill patients to fly). Air-Ambulance is not worth spending because she is not in full senses to even react or respond after reaching India, so he is fully clear that this option is ruled out. It could also be, he might feel a bit stronger with his circle of family around him during this hour of crisis... Thanks again for all your inputs and suggestions. I shall stop this at here and pray to God to give her peace in her final moments. She did go thru hell for last 1 year ..physically, mentally and emotionally. | ||

No, I understand your point...air ambulance costs more than 200K-400K anni chepparu TANA member...My colleague has ruled out that option..He does not want to raise funds (which is impossible at such a short notice)...He is very clear that he is not looking for any help monetarily...He only wants to get help to avoid all the rules and protocol... I guess he is hoping to take her alive to India so that if she can be alive atleast for few more days or weeks, she can spend her last days with her first family anni na understanding..but again I am not sure what is going thru his mind now...he is physically, mentally and emotionally stressed out | ||

At this stage she might have only few days. She may breath more if they put ventilator. That is absolutely not necessary. She will suffer more if she get cousios. Just becoz of some sentiment do not try to make her suffer more. | ||

I can suggest one thing. When she has to go , she has to go. No emotional attachment. Taking her to India by airlifti g would be very costly and not required. She is already gone even her body live.. she is not anymore. Counsil him. He has to accept and come to reality. | ||

Dear Friends, My colleague and his wife are working with me for a healthcare client in Raleigh, NC for last 2 years. Few months back his wife stopped coming to office and he started working from home frequently. Out of curiosity, I tried to probe and came to know that she is diagnosed with one of the rarest of rare tumor in her lungs. They started treatment with Duke Medical Center...Since she did not respond to oral chemo, they started the traditional chemo in April. Last night doctors confirmed that she has stopped responding to the treatment and needs to be moved to Hospice care till she expires. She is currently in a semi-conscious state and her husband wants to take her to Hyderabad (home town) at any cost. Now the issue is neither the doctors are certifying her to fly nor the airlines are ready to take her into the flight. Not sure how we can help him but these are the options I could think of now : 1. Reach out to TANA if they can expedite the process with the officials on medical grounds. He reached out to one Anji but they are saying it will cost half a million dollars to airlift. 2. Tweet Sushma Swaraj and ask for help. She might intervene and break the protocol to bring her back to India. The poor guy is mentally prepared for the worst as he does not want her to suffer anymore...but I believe the process is more cubersome to airlift a dead body as he needs to go to Washington DC and get her passport terminated...So he wants to take her in the current state... Any suggestions / inputs will be very helpful... NOTE : NO MONETARY HELP IS EXPECTED...At this point of time all that he wants is assistance to reach India for her final moments. I could only tell him to detach himself from work and I have taken over his project to drive it to closure. But on personal front, I can only pray for some divine intervention for a miracle to happen to the poor family...She is in her mid-30s |
